A Month of Cover Theme Games #14

Every day this month, I’ll give you a new cover theme game! If you don’t know the game by now, it works like this: I’ll show you three covers. They all have something in common, whether it be a character, a trait all three characters share, a locale, a creator, SOMEthing. And it isn’t something obvious like “They all have prices!” “They all have logos!” “They all feature a man!” “They are all Avengers (who ISN’T?)!” “They’re all dead (who HASN’T been killed off?)!” etc.

In addition, please note that you must have some familiarity with comic book history to correctly guess these comics. You cannot guess the connective theme just by looking at the covers solely, you must have some knowledge beyond just the covers.

If you come up with an answer that works outside of what I intended, I’ll give you credit (well, provided I think it fits, of course).

One more thing – if there are floating heads on the cover, ignore them! They don’t mean anything!

If you think you know the answer, e-mail me at bcronin@comicbookresources.com (make sure to write which number game you’re answering). Don’t answer in the comments. This way, people who check in at different times of the day can still get credit for answering it correctly! After two days, I’ll post the people who answered today’s game correctly! Here is the list of all the games, along with the answers to each one (after two days go by, of course).

Good luck and enjoy!

This isn’t a guess, but rather an observation: You could buy all three issues for under $ 3.00 (us or cdn)!!!

;-)

Answer: this is the first one where Mr. M has all three issues.

Man, when this came out when I was 12, I thought Zeck’s Viper was about as foxy as they come. Looking at that cover now, I have to say I was not wrong.

Did you change the first one here?

Not that it helps me at all, since I still have no idea, but…

Is the theme perspective?

That’s the first X-Men comic I ever had. I loved how the two Romitas’ styles just complemented each other perfectly.

Gettable? Well, I got it! The theme is fried chicken because that’s what I was eating when I looked at all three of these covers!

all the covers have the main characters pictured in the top left

All 3 covers have something where the barcode ordinarily is.

Dangit. If I had known that Kitty Pryde was once known as Ariel, I totally would have gotten this one. I was already trying to connect “Sprite” to Robin Goodfellow.

Characters with “weapons drawn” on the cover?

Y’know, I had this one, but I didn’t know how #3 tied in.

Until that one guy posted the answer here :)

But seriously, wasn’t there a different #1 at first, or am I hallucinating?

I can’t vouch, Travis, but that’s happened with a few other Cover Theme Games this month, where Brian has quickly swapped out one of the covers after posting to make the focus clearer or eliminate some alternate answer.

Gah! Mt initial thought was Shakespeare, but then I couldn’t make it work. Forgot about Ariel.

Too bad nobody got the answer about the moons around Uranus!

And here I was thinking “characters replaced with robot duplicates, which were promptly destroyed.”

J.

I have to agree with buttler irt the foxiness of Mike Zeck’s Viper
