Wow – some interesting results here.
I’m intrigued with the fact that Ditko/Lee’s ASM won out over Kirby/Lee’s FF as a “series”, but that the results were almost exactly the opposite concerning which “run” the fans preferred.
I’m also surprised that Batman: Year One beat out Dark Knight Returns. I thought DKR would be the runaway winner on that one.
The hardest one for me was the question concerning the Kirby Villians. There were some true heavy-hitters listed there, but I think the fans voted for the right one.
I guess that’s why they “play the game” folks (or, in this case, “run the poll”) . . . .

Although I voted for her, I honestly was NOT expecting Stephanie Brown to win that poll.
And I am so glad that she did.

I’m not surprised by that, because I voted for Steph without caring about her one way or another. I’m a Babs fan who thinks it would be ludicrous to put her back in the cowl at this point. It would be like a successful lawyer digging out her prom dress to wear again.
I was surprised that the Crazy Miller stories ranked so low, but not displeased. I’m a bit dismayed that Thomas (who had my vote) and Shooter ranked so low on the Avengers poll, but at least Busiek beat out Bendis.
I voted for Galactus, but I can’t argue with the Doom and Darkseid ranking otherwise.
The Spidey-FF results were pretty predictable the way the questions were phrased, although they look more contradictory in summary here.
I abstained from the current Bat-title poll, because I tend to wait for the trades and haven’t read any of them.

Ditko’s Spider-Man had a stronger percentage than I expected, in both polls.
I’m very, very pleased (and a bit surprised) that Year One won so handly. My faith in the sanity of mankind is recovered. I was afraid that All Star Batman and Robin would have at least 25% of the votes.
I’m disappointed that Busiek + Bendis get 52% of the Avenger vote. It shows just how much the public is polarized between ultra-traditionalism and radical deconstruction. I think the four guys that came after them had much more consistent, enjoyable, and important runs. At least Bendis beat Bendis, there is some consolation in that.
Doom won. Nice, but unsurprising.
Really don’t care much about the Bat books and Batgirl, so whatever.

Ooops.
At least BUSIEK beat Bendis.

For the ones I voted in I went for Darkseid, Cassandra Cain and The Dark Knight Returns.
Second place every time

I’m not a Bendis-hater like so many folks who post on this site seem to be – but I was chagrined to see him rank ahead of so many of the other names on that list, many of whom hail from that “golden era” of comics that constitutes much my own childhood. And while Busiek being so far ahead did surprise me a little, I have no problems with him taking the top spot.
At least Roger Stern placed well. He was practically tied with Bendis (20% to 19%).

I am just glad Doom won. Obvious to you guy I guess but I was not so sure. I voted for Roy Thomas’s Avengers run, I just hit home for me. Yay for Steph’s win I am really liking her as Batgirl.

Look at the vote totals on the first Spidey vs FF question. Over 1K more than any other poll. Something fishy was going on. Further, considering the numbers, even if that is legit many people likely voted without reading both series.
Batman and Avengers answers were correct. Darkseid coming in second shows how much people love Doom, as the Marvel characters in general split votes up.

It was linked on the front page of CBR. Nothing fishy there. The bro-mance one was linked on the front page, too, so expect a big voting total there, too.

I think he’s using “fishy” in the same sense that he uses “correct”–that is to say, to reflect how closely they conform to his own druthers.

That makes more sense Brian. So maybe the excess of votes or front page viewers’ tastes differ from the CBSG hardcore? That might explain the difference in the two polls rather than the different wording.

The replies in the comment section were pretty clear – people felt that the best parts of the Kirby/Lee FF happened in the issues after the ones listed in the first poll (particularly the legendary period between the introduction of the Inhumans through the introduction of the Black Panther, and then right into the Doom stealing the Power Cosmic storyline). So it would make sense that when you take those issues out of the equation, people felt that the Ditko/Lee Spidey issues were tops. You put the other FF issues into the mix (as we did in the second poll) and the Kirby/Lee FF issues come out on top.

Busiek over Shooter, Englehart, Stern and Thomas. LOL Real Avengers fans, where are thou?

@Frank I guess there’s not that many Avengers hardcore fans. I voted for Busiek because I haven’t read Stern, Shooter, Thomas or Englehart Avengers.

@ Frank:
i have read all the authors that you list & still voted Busiek. He’s my favorite writer of all time & i loved his Avengers run & voted for it. Stern was my 2nd by far. The great thing about the Avengers is that there have been some great writers on it who have created memorable runs…
and then there’s Bendis. [Vomits loudly]
