You Decide ’11 – Week 5 Results!

Each day in February I gave you folks a poll question. Each poll lasted five days. The results were posted every Tuesday. Here is the master list of all the questions that were asked!

A “problem” I had was that one of the results was likely going to be a match-up in our March Madness DC/Marvel Character Tournament, so I didn’t feel like revealing the results of that poll until the tournament was over. It is over, so here are the results for the last batch of the poll questions!

All amounts are rounded up except in the case of breaking ties.

19% Batman Begins

10% Batman (1989)

9% Batman (1966)

8% Batman Returns

1.28% Batman Forever

1.18% Batman & Robin

After the first 5 or so, the votes seem pretty evenly spread for the majority of the 80s runs. That’s interesting.

And someone voted for Batman & Robin?

Actually, if I did the math right, 12 people voted for Batman & Robin, all masochists I presume.

A dirty dozen people would have had to vote for Batman & Robin. The loud crack you heard was the 7th seal breaking…

I voted for Batman and Robin.

Thor is magical! how can superman beat him?

There is a frightening Thor contingent on the internet. I think it’s a cult.

And they’re magical, Matt. You can’t beat them.

Yeah, I imagine that that was the reason for the delay.

I think Thor should beat Superman if you play Superman’s vulnerability to magic the way it’s used in Superman’s own comic, but it’s not a stretch that Superman could come up with a way to win too. It’s not the level of silly of Batman beating Thor with 30 min time and only his usual gadgets. So yeah, I can see it happening (though not the way Kurt Busiek did it, making it so easy and completely ignoring Superman’s vulnerability).

Hurrah for the Dark Knight and Nolan’s movies! 70% of the votes. Sanity returns. Another case of the vocal minority being very vocal and causing a wrong impression. The way people started to bash the Nolan movies in that thread, I almost feared that Beatlejuice Batman or transvestite hooker Batman would win.

Claremont/Byrne’s X-Men are simply insanely popular after all these years. They had only a few issues in 1980, and people still voted them.

I am always amazed at how many people have fondness for the Claremont/Romita Jr./Green Uncanny X-Men.

@ Mr. B.C.: I seem to remember that you had something going on in January, and that you also didn’t complete or up-date the completed link at the end of the month.

Did you complete/update those links?

I’m pretty amazed that John Romita scored so low on the costume design question. I thought way more people would give him his due for introducing the looks of Wolverine, Punisher, Spider-Woman and a bunch of other characters whose look for the most part stood the test of time.

Unless I’m mistaken and he didn’t design all those, but I’m pretty sure he did…

Glad Cockrum scored high, at any rate.

Did you complete/update those links?

Don’t worry, Matt D. That cult doesn’t really take off until 2099 or so. (Damn Thorites)

oops… messed up the blockquotes… sorry

Yay – the results are out!

And wow, kind of disappointed that the Stern/JRjr ASM didn’t rank higher (not that it did all the badly). Based on some of the comments I saw at the time, though, I was quietly optimistic that we had a quiet contingent of voters out there who would push that run to a higher showing, if not an outright upset.

And even though I bow to the awesomeness that was the Simonson Thor run, I am kind of surprised that it turned out to be the overall winner. I really though it would be the Byrne/Clarment X-Men and Miller/Jansen DD (pick one), with the Simonson Thor rounding out the top 3.

OK . . . and now after posting that I realize how stupid I am – the Byrn/Claremont Uncanny X-men did win. My bad.

Been that kind of a day . . .

I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own blog and was wondering what all is required to get setup? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very internet savvy so I’m not 100% certain. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Oy, sad to see that Kirby was voted best designer. I wish they’d completely redesign all of his DC characters–those costumes are hideous!
