Cover Theme Game for 5/22

What a treat! Out of nowhere, a new cover theme game! If you don’t know the game by now, it works like this: I’ll show you three covers. They all have something in common, whether it be a character, a trait all three characters share, a locale, a creator, SOMEthing. And it isn’t something obvious like “They all have prices!” “They all have logos!” “They all feature a man!” “They are all Avengers (who ISN’T?)!” “They’re all dead (who HASN’T been killed off?)!” etc.

In addition, please note that you must have some familiarity with comic book history to correctly guess these comics. You cannot guess the connective theme just by looking at the covers solely, you must have some knowledge beyond just the covers.

If you come up with an answer that works outside of what I intended, I’ll give you credit (well, provided I think it fits, of course).

One more thing – if there are floating heads on the cover, ignore them! They don’t mean anything!

If you think you know the answer, e-mail me at bcronin@comicbookresources.com. Don’t answer in the comments. This way, people who check in at different times of the day can still get credit for answering it correctly! After two days, I’ll post the people who answered today’s game correctly!

Good luck and enjoy!

You’d think I’d know this. Hmm…

Actually, yeah, I would think you would, too. :)

…um… they all feature aliens?

I was going to say “they feature no humans,” But Adam Strange is and Wildfire was.

Seriously… I got one theory, but I don’t know enough history of the specific characters on the Rebels cover to push it. The damnedest thing is, I BOUGHT all three books as they came out…

Yeah, the thing about this one is that the covers have a lot of way-too-obvious things in common, all being Legion-related titles & all, but it took me a while to think of a connection that was slightly-less-obvious enough to be suitable without being completely cockamamie.

OK, I got a theory here…

All three feature characters that “betrayed” their teams. Further, it’s the character in the center of the cover.

Cover 1: Vril Dox. It’s pretty much his stock-in-trade.

Cover 2: Chameleon Boy. Led an unauthorized invasion of Khund space by the Legion Espionage Squad, telling them it was authorized. Was expelled and imprisoned for causing a major diplomatic incident.

Cover 3: Blok. Originally a member of the League of Super-Assassins, turned against the Dark Man and joined the Legion.

I guess using Terra would have been too obvious, and using Legion-related books would certainly be a good red herring…

Jay broke the rules but since I came here hoping for an answer I have no problems with it – that theory is better than my best answer (all comics that I own…).

Jay also apologized in an e-mail, but I should make it clear here, too… sorry, I’m a bonehead.

I just got so excited that I actually had a potential answer, I blipped over the rules. It’s so rare that the rules are even germane for me…
