The Line It Is Drawn #50 – Super Team Extravaganza!
Go follow Comics Should Be Good on Twitter (if you have Twitter, that is – if you don’t, you can go sign up). Here is our Twitter page… http://twitter.com/csbg. And here are the Comics Should Be Good writers who are on Twitter (the links go to the person’s Twitter account) – myself, Greg Hatcher, Chad Nevett, Kelly Thompson, Sonia Harris Danielle Leigh, Melinda Beasi, Michelle Smith, Bill Reed and Scott!
The blog’s Twitter account updates whenever a new post is put up on the blog, so it’s an easy way to keep up with the blog. In addition, I post new content on the blog’s Twitter account.
Now on to the bit!
So every week, I ask a question here. You reply to it on our Twitter page (just write @csbg with your reply) and our SIX blog sketch artists will each pick one of your suggestions and I will post them here every week. So every week you will have a new question and you will see the top six choices from the previous week.
To qualify, you have to be following us when you reply – so go follow us and then give your answer to the following question/challenge (All suggestions due by 6:00 AM Pacific, Friday, July 29th).
The next theme is…
Acts of Vengeance! Match-up a comic book hero against a villain that he/she has never faced before. It can be a villain from the same comic book company or a different company.
Read on for the sketches that came about courtesy of the last question/challenge!
Make up your own five character super team, using the following guidelines:
1 DC Comics character
1 Marvel Comics character
1 character from any other comic book company
2 wild card characters – characters from any work of fiction (movies, TV, video games, novels, more comic book characters, whatever you’d like!)
Enjoy!
I’ll put them in alphabetical order based on the name of the Twitter user who made the suggestion.
All copyright and trademarks of the following characters are held by their respective owners!
All the artists are here this week, but for the fiftieth edition of The Line It Is Drawn, we’re not stopping at just six artists this time around! Sean will be appearing this week, but so will PAST Line it is Drawn contributors Erich and Rafael! And since our tenth contributor, Brad, could not make it, I got a pretty damn good “fill-in,” as the artist of Red Wing #1, the great Nick Pitarra, is our guest artist for this 50th edition of The Line it is Drawn!
BigMike20X6 suggested:
Hawkman, Nighthawk, Shadowhawk, Darkhawk, & Hawkeye
Our first returning contributor, Rafael Desquitado, is the artist for this one. Here is his website.

caanan suggested:
Poison Ivy, Black Cat, Ghost, the Bride, & Chun Li
George Zapata is the artist for this one. Here is his website.
(click on the image to enlarge)
cnevett suggested:
Punisher, Marshal Law (hey, DC has the rights now… TECHNICALITY!), Judge Dredd, Robocop, and Harry Callahan.
Chaz Folgar is the artist for this one. Here is his website.
(click on the image to enlarge a LOT)
dc2omniverse suggested:
Elsa Bloodstone, Frankenstein (DC), Lobster Johnson, Ash (Evil Dead) & Simon Belmont (Castlevania)
Sean McFarland is the artist for this one. Here is his website.
(click on the image to enlarge)
gammaduck suggested:
Batgirl (Babs Gordon), Iron Fist, Kraken from Umbrella Academy, Emma Peel, and Super-Grover.
Caanan Grall is the artist for this one. Here is his website.
(click on the image to enlarge)
RobertSDoughty suggested:
Blade, Hellboy, John Constantine, Buffy, Van Helsing, and Egon from the Ghostbusters.
Daniel Irizarri is the artist for this one. Here is his website. He dubbed this team the new BPRD!
Sbf1Franco suggested:
Elektra, Katana, Usagi Yojimbo, Samurai Jack, and Lone Wolf & Cub.
Michael “Mic?” Magtanong is the artist for this one. Here is his website.

sbotzakis suggested:
Yukk, Dynomutt, Ace the Bathound, Snoopy, and Lockjaw
The wonderful Nick Pitarra, artist on last week’s excellent (and visually stunning) #1 comic, Red Wing, was gracious enough to fill-in for Brad so we could have a full ten artists for our 50th edition! You can check out Nick’s website here. And buy Red Wing #1, people! It is a nifty time travel story! Jonathan Hickman wrote the heck out of it and Nick drew the bejesus out of it!
(click on the image to enlarge)
shurwitt suggested:
The Warriors Four: Wonder Woman, Valkyrie, Red Sonja and Vampirella.
Our other returning contributor, Erich Owen, is the artist for this one. Here is his website.
(click on the image to enlarge)
Erich spent so much time making it look badass that he didn’t have time for the fifth member, Xena.
shurwitt suggested:
Team Ditko: Dr. Strange, The Creeper, Mr. A, Blue Beetle, Spider-Man
Nick Perks is the artist for this one, too. Here is his website.
(click on the image to enlarge)
Thanks so much to EVERYbody! What an awesome experience this feature has been! Our artists, who we get to see get better and better right in front of our eyes…all you contributors out there – this is a whole lot of fun.
Thanks so much to Brad, Caanan, Chaz, Daniel, Erich, George, Mic?, Nick, Rafael and Sean! And thanks, of course, to this week’s guest artist, Nick Pitarra! And thanks to all of you suggestion-givers out there who tweet us every week! As the cast of Scooby Doo would say, we couldn’t have a show without you!
Now go make suggestions for the next edition!!

I tried all week to think of what my team would be. Spider-Man, Scrooge McDuck, and Optimus Prime were shoe-ins, and my DC pick probably would have been Dr. Mid-Nite, but I got stuck on that last character.

I see Mic? does it again (and with style too) with this “Team Samurai” (and I’m extremely grateful that somebody remember SAMURAI JACK {from the Cartoon Network)).
Plus Team “SuperDogs, Team Ditko & the Warriors Four are good as well.

Holy gosh vindaloo, these are so good! I love that y’all did two of my suggestions, and incredibly awesomely (I would buy that Team Ditko comic in a heartbeat), but I’m loving the rest of these too.
The two supernatural investigation squads? Brilliant.
Team Katana? Badass.
Super Grover saves the day? Of course he does.
And I love that in an assemblage of cartoon dogs, Dyno-Mutt isn’t even the goofy one.

I think Sean’s is my favorite this week, but he had an unfair advantage since he got to draw Ash.
Great job by everyone, as usual.

You guys are badasses, as always.
Still, I am superbummed that my suggested team of Batman, Luke Cage, Hellboy, Spike (Buffy), and Don Draper (Mad Men) who would of course be called THE KINGS OF SEXY didn’t make the cut.
*pouts horribly*
ETA: It is just occurring to me that I may be ineligible to make suggestions. Yeah, that’s the ticket!

Hah, didn’t use my request, but still got some awesome Demon Hunter teams anyway. Good pics all-around.

The Ditko one is probably my favorite visually, but I’m also in love with the team dc2 came up with and the way Sean drew them. Really dig the idea of the Warriors Four, too.

BigMike20X6…. What? No Silver Hawks?
I would totally read “The new adventures of B.P.R. D.” with that line up.

First of all: Congratulations on achieving your 50th Column, TLIID people! And Thanks for all the work you’ve done for us!
Now, my comments:
As I expected, too many of these are just characters posing together… nothing wrong with that, but the ones that are shown interacting or fighting side-by-side are more fun in my opinion.
For example: in the “Warriors Four” you can tell they aren’t even supposed to be in the same place together! THAT said, it’s the best drawn this time (and not just because of all the cheesecake). Great job Owen!
Now, MY personal favorite (and I can’t believe I’m saying this, as I’m not a particular fan of the characters involved) is Sean’s monster hunters. It’s both awesome AND funny at the same time!
Finally, I want to say how much I appreciate the use of semi-forgotten characters like Samurai Jack or Yukk. So thanks to the people who made the suggestions as well!
May TLIID last for more than 50 columns more!

How does one get to join this illustrious group of illustrators? Is there a nomination process of some kind? A “cool website” requirement?

The artists did a great job, but I especially want to give a round of applause to the people making suggestions this time around. In some installments the suggestions are the weak link, but this time around people made some inspired, which I’m sure helped a lot. Props all around.

Happy 50th! To think for this celebration I got Super Grover, Yukk, Lone Wolf & Cub, Snoopy, Red Sonja, Ash, AND Mr. A!
Inspired work once again guys…

Love the intensity of the Super Grover image. That’s a book I’d pick up off the shelf with no problem.
Vengeance is too big. There’s just too many great choices to choose from… but my top two (if someone could pass them on because an Apple virus has screwed up Twitter):
Magneto vs Optimus Prime
Hellboy vs Mephisto

Great work everyone! There were some very clever suggestions this week!
Also, Brian, could you make an archive of all of the Line it is Drawn? I really want to show people certain weeks that stood out to me, but it’s hard to go back and find them.
Thanks!

Pretty good stuff: dogs, supernatural, paranormal groups.
Wish my internet wasn’t out this last week. I would have suggested a time policing group:
Booster Gold, Dr. Who, Sam Beckett, Timewalker (Valiant), & maybe Iron Lad (young Kang) – I was stuck on Marvel’s character, maybe Nathaniel Richards instead.
And what ever happened to the reader gallery of LIID?

Thank you Brian for selecting my suggestion! Also thank you to Daniel Irizarri for drawing it! I would buy this version of BPRD in a heartbeat. I kinda cheated with six characters instead of five, but I think its really the ultimate monster hunting team. Man I wish it was a real book.

I am so late! But Congratulations to THE LINE IT IS DRAWN on the big 5-0!! That goes to CSBG, the artists (past and present), and all the suggestion-givers!!
Thank you so much to BRIAN for this feature and for this installment in particular. You brought back the OGs! What a wonderful surprise!!
The pieces are stunning and so much fun.
I saved the lengthy thank yous for my blog, but, for this one, I gotta give my props to STEVE for the fresh “Team Samurai” suggestion!
I’m very happy you digs my piece, PAX, BUTTLER, & DNWILLIAMS!
Thanks for the love, everyone! Respekt!
Peace.

Keeping it a surprise from you guys was tough. You could imagine how worried I was that they would pick a suggestion that one of you guys had picked.

Hahah I could! I was actually VERY close to choosing The Warriors Four. I’m glad I didn’t blow the surprise!
