Wow, Marissa was kind of a jerk in this comic. Why is she Josh’s friend again?
In Josh’s defense we men are almost universally clueless when it comes to women.

Is it just me or did Marissa age 5-10 yrs since the last comic? Not that I’m complaining. Just noticing. Or losing more of my eyesight.

I have slowly evolved Marissa’s look over the years. I changed her glasses and her hairstyle about 6 months ago and have been tweaking them every once in a while.

Wow. This one made realize I actually care for Josh, cause it made me wanna slap Marissa for being such a bitch.

Yeah, Josh is definitely growing on me. And Marissa shrinking.

I like that it takes Josh a second there at the end (in other words, the punchline made me laugh. Of course, given some of the early comments about this strip…)
I am wondering if maybe Marissa is becoming too unlikeable. To echo above, why are they friends?
Thinking about, y’know, Marissa always wants Josh to act more grown up, and then now when he does, she cuts him down. Does she have issues we need to learn more about?

Isn’t Marissa Jewish?

Well, nobody can disagree with the Comics Criticism this week in Comics Critics. Because there wasn’t any.

love how Marrisa wound up trying to set josh right about joyce liking him though she did not need to come off so nasty in order for josh to figure things out .

That last panel sums up my feelings about this strip exactly.

No, I think Marissa played that one right. Josh’s explanations seldom help any situation.

I think it’s the “hugs and kisses” detail that sells the behavior. Good strip, guys.

Because I don’t quite read the strip often enough to really know the characters, when I first read this installment I thought Marissa was Josh’s mom. Now that I’m reading the comments it starts coming back to me that she’s part of his group of friends. So I guess I do agree that she reads as older now.

I really like Marissa here… that was hilarious.
Oh… and don’t worry about that. She switched to Sprint’s 69.99 plan, so she wasn’t charged extra.

@ The Mutt:
You have captured my feelings perfectly. This is the last one for me!

I was wondering the same thing, since an earlier strip had her complaining about goyim using Yiddish words.
Maybe it means that her swearing “by all the saints of Christendom” was sarcastic.

I like this one, I think it’s completely in character with the snarky relationship they’ve displayed toward one another in past strips, and the second panel got a chuckle from me–nice timing. On the other hand, I do enjoy when the dicks and assholes post their comments about this strip and it’s nice to see that they’re back for this one.

I liked this one. I’m glad that Marissa actually showed up for a change. Sorry that people can’t handle the fact that she’s female.

This cements for me the idea that Marissa doesn’t really consider Josh a friend. Josh, being clueless, imagines that anyone he spends enough time with must be a friend (at least that) by default. It seems to happen a lot with a certain kind of geeky dude.
