2011 Top DC Characters #25-21

After nearly 1,400 ballots were cast, YOU the reader ranked your favorite comic book characters from 1-10. I assigned point totals to each ranking and then tabulated it all into a Top 50 list. We’re now revealing that list throughout September. Here is the master list of all the characters revealed so far. The countdown continues…

Write-ups later, results now!

25. Swamp Thing – 661 points (12 first place votes)

24. Captain Marvel (Billy Batson) – 705 points (16 first place votes)

23. Green Lantern (Guy Gardner) – 718 points (7 first place votes)

22. Martian Manhunter – 738 points (9 first place votes)

21. Aquaman (Arthur Curry/Orin) – 747 points (16 first place votes)

Tomorrow we’ll see Marvel’s #25-21!

Huh. Swamp Thing avoided the Vertigo drop, and Captain Marvel didn’t drop too badly? Weird.

Wow! Go Aquaman!!

Both Guy and Swampy made my shortlist. Good to see them doing well, but I am beginning to worry about some of my choices. So far only one of mine has turned up.

interesting to see swamp thing on the list at that ranking plus suprise two of the big seven mm and aquaman are at those rankings thought they would also be in the top ten.

That blowfish on the cover looks just as shocked to see Aquaman this high as I am.

Finally, some folks I voted for. I think Aquaman was my #3? Somewhere in there.

These are all excellent choices! I had Guy for number one, but didn’t really expect anyone else to.

Wow, still none of my picks, although I totally should have put Captain Marvel on my list. Kind of forgot he’s DC.

Two of my top 10 have been listed now, glad to see some love for Aquaman!

Guy is a surprise! Aquaman just misses the Top 20.
Would love to see Billy get a bigger push in the new DCU!

I’m kinda surprised to see Martian Manhunter this high.

Anybody surprised to see Aquaman this high needs to watch Batman: Brave and the Bold.

Wow, still none of my picks, although I totally should have put Captain Marvel on my list. Kind of forgot he’s DC.

Fair enough. So did DC.

Anybody surprised to see Aquaman this high needs to watch Batman: Brave and the Bold.

Batman: Brave and the Bold Aquaman is the best Aquaman. Much as Mini-Marvels Hawkeye is the best Hawkeye and Marvel Adventures Hulk is the best Hulk.

But yeah. Aquaman: More popular than Darkseid. That’s a whole lot of finny friends.

Also, if this group right here was suddenly the Justice League, I’d buy the heck out of that,

Aquaman was my number three but really he’s one of my all time faves and perhaps should have been my number 2, loved him ever since I read Patrick Gleason’s run, I would have hoped he’d be higher but oh well.

Its also nice to see Swamp Thing up there too.

I know very little about comic book Aquaman, but Batman: Brave and the Bold Aquaman is outrageous! I’d read a book about him.

I’m kicking myself for leavng Swamp Thing and Captain Marvel off of my short list. Don’t know if they’d have made my top 10 list, but the might’ve been in the running.

Guy Gardner was #13 on my final list. Overall, he’s probably had one of the best long-term story arcs of pretty much any character in the DC Universe. He went from a thug to a joke to the toughest badass in the Green Lantern Corps, and (except for that time he was a shapeshifting alien) it all came organically. It’s no wonder he was the only GL to make my list.

I’ll be honest, I liked J’onn in the Justice League, but I never really cared for him as a solo character. Obviously, a lot of people disagree, and that’s fine. He’s just not my cup of tea, is all.

I like Aquaman and al, but he finished just outside my short list. If I were judging by how the character was portrayed in other media, then the Brave and the Bold version would’ve pushed him in my top 20 at least (I agree, he’s great on that show), but I made a point of judging them solely on the comics. (The same thing that kept The Question off of my list.)

I always felt Captain Marvel was the unloved stepchild of the DC Universe, “kidnapped” from Fawcett(?). He’s the Superman Alpha Male AND the Peter Parker awkard teen.

Aquaman is a personal favorite. And again it seems to be Peter David’s writing that made me love another character!

Swamp Thing I haven’t read to much of yet – looking forward to Snyder’s run! But I remember enjoying the Moench / Jones story in Batman in the 90’s ;) – I still have yet to try the Vertigo tales.

I’m glad to see J’Onn this high on the countdown, especially considering how poorly he’s been used in the past few years. I have faith that Paul Cornell will write a good MM in Stormwatch.

Swampy made my list, I assume. I really should have kept better track.

Well there goes most of my list. Everybody voted for Plastic Man too right?
