The Scariest Comic Books of All-Time! – His Face All Red

A reader named Chris S. suggested that I devote October to the scariest comic books of all-time, as suggested by you readers out there! Sounds like a plan to me! So all October-long, I’ll be featuring 31 comic book tales of terror, based on YOUR suggestions! So e-mail me at bcronin@comicbookresources.com your scary suggestions! Here is an archive of all the comics featured so far!

Reader Jones, one of the Jones boys made a number of excellent horror comic selections. Here is another one of them, Emily Carroll’s striking web comic, His Face All Red.

Enjoy!

Emily Carroll is an excellent comic book writer and artist. Here is her website.

His Face All Red can be all read here.

It is a story about a man who has an…interesting dynamic with his brother…

Since you can read the whole comic on her website, I won’t share any more than this first page.

As you can tell, though, Carroll has an impressive ability to slowly unveil her tale in such a fashion that she can amp up the drama. This continues throughout the comic.

My favorite line is “came from the woods (most strange things do),” which she uses to perfection twice in the story.

Looks interesting. I’ll have to check it out. I’m a cartoonist myself, so I always like to see people use a more “cartoony” style to tell serious stories.

Great pick Brian!

Emily Carroll is a complete badass. We talked about her on a 3 Chicks podcast (episode 005, the “best of 2010″ episode)

She’s amazing. She’s also got a story coming out with Brian Wood for Vertigo’s Unexpected Anthology (I think it comes out this month?). Huge talent…paired with Brian Wood makes it a can’t miss.
