The Line It Is Drawn #60 – Comic Book Characters in Different Genres

Go follow Comics Should Be Good on Twitter (if you have Twitter, that is – if you don’t, you can go sign up). Here is our Twitter page… http://twitter.com/csbg. And here are the Comics Should Be Good writers who are on Twitter (the links go to the person’s Twitter account) – myself, Greg Hatcher, Chad Nevett, Kelly Thompson, Sonia Harris Danielle Leigh, Melinda Beasi, Michelle Smith, Bill Reed and Scott!

I update the blog’s Twitter account updates whenever a new post is put up on the blog, so it’s an easy way to keep up with the blog. In addition, I post new content on the blog’s Twitter account.

Now on to the bit!

So every week, I ask a question here. You reply to it on our Twitter page (just write @csbg with your reply) and our SIX blog sketch artists will each pick one of your suggestions and I will post them here every week. So every week you will have a new question and you will see the top six choices from the previous week. Here is an archive of all the previous editions of The Line It Is Drawn!

To qualify, you have to be following us when you reply – so go follow us and then give your answer to the following question/challenge (All suggestions due by 9:00 AM Pacific, Friday, October 7th).

Next week’s theme is…

Courtesy of our own Caanan Grall, comic book characters and board games. Comic book characters in board games (Batman in Clue, Wolverine stuck in Candyland), comic book characters playing board games (Hulk playing Scrabble), comic book characters teaming up with characters from board games (Uncle Scrooge and Rich Uncle Pennybags teaming up), whatever you’d like!

Read on for the six sketches that came about courtesy of the last question/challenge!

place a notable comic book character in a genre different from their normal genre (for example, stuff like Green Lantern Noir or Romance Wolverine)

Enjoy!

I’ll put them in alphabetical order based on the name of the Twitter user who made the suggestion.

All copyright and trademarks of the following characters are held by their respective owners!

Everyone showed up this week, so Sean’s piece will go up tomorrow!

Nice batch this week! Uber-kudos to George Z. The look on Kory’s face and her body language sums it all up perfectly.

I usually enjoy these. This week, nearly all of them left me “blah.”

But Nick Perks’ Inferior Five… flipping gave me chills. Big chills. I don’t do gritty, but I would so buy every one of this series.

That is so beyond awesome, it can’t even see awesome from where it’s standing.

J.

Unfortunately, Kenneth Rocafort beat Mr. Zapata to the punch when it comes to drawing Starfire as a pornstar

Victorian Lady Blackhawk and Ryan Choi are both awesome.

Michael “Mic?” Magtanong wins for adding in Head. QQQQQQQQQ!!!!!!

Great work guys, but man Mic? you just went to town, set up an awesome-shop and had a fire-sale.

Ok, that metaphor kind of got confused, but suffice to say, I frickin’ love it.

Oh and Chaz, you have burnt my eyeballs.

My suggestion was only meant to be facetious, but thanks for using it anyway!

Static Shock is OK, but once again, art pieces where the characters are just- there- don’t impress me as much as when they are fighting (or talking, or playing- anything!)

Man, those are the ugliest breasts I’ve ever seen on a ‘sexy’ superheroine (but I guess that’s the idea, so it’s funny). Constantine can be fed to the lions for all I care.

Good to see Caanan back, his art always has a whimsy to it that’s very welcome. If anything was wrong here it was the color pallette, but hey, they can’t all be colorful.

Mic has once again the best piece, and I never even read the Choi Atom comic, so I have no idea who that floating head guy is supposed to be, but the whole “Victorian Era Fantastic Voyage” is so cool (and well drawn!!)

Second best drawn was Nick Perk’s. Although overall I don’t like it (the Inferior Five should never, EVER be gritty) I must admit it was rather ingenious in its character references.

Starfire as a Porn Star had me saying “But didn’t DC already did that last month?” and made me laugh out before I even saw the art piece. Funniest.

Great job overall, and as usual, can’t wait for Sean’s piece! :)

DANIEL, your graphic design skills and fashion sense stay fresh to death. I always look forward to your redesigns ever since I first realized that yours was that sick Martian Manhunter redesign featured on P:R a while back. Always a treat! Doubly since you chose to go w/ Virgil this round!

CHAZ, you KILLT me this week!! You consistently crack me up week-in and week-out. I still can’t help but chuckle each time I pass your illo as I scroll up and down even after my initial burst of joy at first sight and the encore w/ Sean’s comment.

Welcome back, CAANAN! I’d totally buy this comic. ANY comic you write/draw actually.

Excellent composition and story, NICK! Compelling and thoughtful.

YEE! Great stuff, GEORGE! hahah Pasties are always a nice and classy touch.

Can’t wait to see yours, SEAN! I KNOW it’s gon be HOT. Thanks for the love, bro!

Very happy y’all approve of my piece, MATT, ROBERT, & SIJO! Couldn’t have done it w/o DC2OMNIVERSE‘s brilliance! Made a killing w/ 4 suggestions! That’s Big Mike status right there.

Peace.

Someone better tweet “Catwoman playing Mousetrap” for next week, even if it’s obvious, or I’m gonna cry :(

Haha, mic.
None of my suggestions were selected this week but I still get name dropped. That’s just as good!

I enjoyed the humor of Chaz, but Inferior Five won.

I dont understand, I was looking for this post every two hours since the last two days and I still totally miss when you post it! So, its friday 10:20 mountain time and I miss again the deadline to post any suggestion. :(

what is the link so I can check up this post?

I was looking for it on http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/
But is not there.

It has been on the site since 4pm Mountain time Thursday.

Yeah… not sure who suggested ” grim-and-gritty Inferior Five” but they should get their proposal off to DC. A group of failed, ridiculed super-heroes having to redefine themselves when their mentors are killed… could work. (Get Ed Brubaker on it now)

Maybe it’s because I’ve got Disney World on the mind because we’re going in about a month (yay!) but Caanan’s reminds me of Thunder Mountain Railroad. I’d love to see this scene while inline/on the ride.

Another great week. Good job, guys!

It was me who suggested it, and the funny thing is that I’m glad DC hasn’t done much with the Inferior Five in recent decades because I’m afraid they would do something like that, and I think some fun characters should stay fun. (No cosmetics testing on Captain Marvel Bunny, if you please.) But things i’m leery of happening in the actual comics are great fodder for stuff like this, and I love your take on it. Thanks!

Wow… I never expected that many of mine to get picked! Thanks guys! Apparently I was sacrificing the right kinds of kittens or something… virgins are in such short supply nowadays.

Daniel, I totally dig the cyberpunk Static Shock. You’re rocking a pretty heavy Shirow vibe there with it.

Chaz, dear God, man, my eyes! And, yeah, to the lions with him!

Caanan, I love the Batgirl and the dime novel look that you did with it. I’d totally buy that.

Mic, you are my idol

Nick, that is just seriously twisted, man. It’s like the IF as gangland enforcers.

George, too much tape and hands in the way. ;)

Thanks again, guys, and I hope I’m only half as successful next week with my suggestions.

I think the Western Batgirl and the Cyberpunk Static would make awesome Elseworld stories.

I know its done as a pardoy and that deconstructionist grim and gritty comics have become cliche and everything………………………..but I would totally read that Inferior Five series.

That Inferior Five was amazing. I would so buy that.
