The Scariest Comic Books of All Time! – Hopping Down The Bunny Trail

A reader named Chris S. suggested that I devote October to the scariest comic books of all-time, as suggested by you readers out there! Sounds like a plan to me! So all October-long, I’ll be featuring 31 comic book tales of terror, based on YOUR suggestions! So e-mail me at bcronin@comicbookresources.com your scary suggestions! Here is an archive of all the comics featured so far!

Edward Tonner, who runs a blog called “The Best Horror Comics,” suggested “Hopping Down the Bunny Trail” by Michael Uslan and Tenny Henson from 1980’s Unexpected #202.

Enjoy!

This is a really short one, so what the heck, here is the bit…

Deeeeeeeeeeeeeeesturbing!

Saw that coming from panel 2, but I still liked the execution.

omg had the chills the moment the kids went into the mansion that the so called easter bunny was up to no good going to have to track down the issue again.

Hey Brian, could you post the cover for those who haven’t seen it? It’s an all-time classic.

Brian, howzabout posting an archive link to these entries as you have in prior months? Thanks!

Amusingly enough, Mike, I have had an archive going all month (I had it linked on the front page of CBR last weekend), but I never actually included the archive link in the entries. Oops! That’s fixed now. Thanks for the head’s up!

Sure, Scott, here ya go…

I love when a writer/artist team can take a really goofy idea (let’s be honest, this concept could almost be a Simpsons “Treehouse of Horror” entry) and make it genuinely creepy and effective. Nice!

Yay! Thanks for posting my suggestion, Brian. This one’s always been close to my heart.
It’s always been true that the scariest comic you’ll ever read is that one you read as a kid.

How DC got this one by the Comics Code in 1980, I’ll never know…

@Brian: “Thanks for the head’s up!”

Heh, heh.

Also, that cover is beautiful.

I can remember reading this one back when it was first published and being creeped out by it. Great choice.

For more recent fare, how about Marvel’s two-issue adaptation of Stephen King’s “N.”? Very atmospheric, genuinely disturbing.

I remember that one well – an actual creepy story in a DC anthology!
