The Line It Is Drawn #62 – Comic Book Characters/Simpsons Characters

Go follow Comics Should Be Good on Twitter (if you have Twitter, that is – if you don’t, you can go sign up). Here is our Twitter page… http://twitter.com/csbg. And here are the Comics Should Be Good writers who are on Twitter (the links go to the person’s Twitter account) – myself, Greg Hatcher, Chad Nevett, Kelly Thompson, Sonia Harris Danielle Leigh, Melinda Beasi, Michelle Smith, Bill Reed and Scott!

I update the blog’s Twitter account updates whenever a new post is put up on the blog, so it’s an easy way to keep up with the blog. In addition, I post new content on the blog’s Twitter account.

Now on to the bit!

So every week, I ask a question here. You reply to it on our Twitter page (just write @csbg with your reply) and our SEVEN blog sketch artists will each pick one of your suggestions and I will post them here every week. So every week you will have a new question and you will see the top six choices from the previous week. Here is an archive of all the previous editions of The Line It Is Drawn!

To qualify, you have to be following us when you reply – so go follow us and then give your answer to the following question/challenge (All suggestions due by 7:00 AM Pacific, Friday, October 21st).

Next week’s theme is…

This theme is so awesome I should probably hold it back for, like, #100 or something, but I can’t wait, so here’s the bit! Name four comic book characters. Our artists will then put those characters in a band. Our artists will decide what kind of band the characters will be in. Awesome, right?

Read on for the six sketches that came about courtesy of the last question/challenge!

Team-ups/mash-ups between comic book characters and characters from the Simpsons!

Enjoy!

I’ll put them in alphabetical order based on the name of the Twitter user who made the suggestion.

All copyright and trademarks of the following characters are held by their respective owners!

Never have I laughed so hard at something on the internet as when I saw Catlady.
All of the pieces this week were wonderful. Great theme!

Absolutely one of the best TLIDs so far. But…need to get some peroxide on my eyes after Magtanong’s art.

To quote Homer Simpson, “Woo Hoo!” Three suggestions used this week. Man, all the pieces rocked this week though.

Holy Crap! I literally thought every one was the most amazing thing, until I saw the next one. You guys hit this outta the park and into the stratosphere! The look on Rev. Lovejoy’s face on the “Preacher” cover. Maude’s reanimated corpse. The One Armed Guy (I had to Google him but his name is Herman) as the Lizard. You guys deserve a round of applause.

Mic – Hysterical! Well-played, sir.

Oh and Crazy Cat Lady, so wrong, just…SO WRONG!

The Cat Lady is so funny I might have a hernia.

Awesome. Especially spidey bart. Should do a sequel to this simpsons theme

Mic?!!!!! MY EYES! MY EEEEYYYYYES! So wrong. And perfect.

Seriously excellent work all around chaps, I personally feel embiggened to have my humble scratchings amongst such endeavors.

Nick I gotta say you perfectly captured the voice of each of those characters, you had me laughing like a dweeb.

Spot on homage Daniel. Hopefully the rev. ditches Helen and goes looking for less shrew like Tulip.

Nice to see that there’s at least one other person Skinner can relate to Chaz..

Krusty has had little luck with his side-kicks… somehow I don’t see this ending well,

I can’t believe none of these had comic book guy in them. There was even an episode of the Simpsons where they showed him in the classic pose from Amazing Spider-Man #50.

Yup, Crazy Cat Lady is awesome. I don’t think I’ve ever actually laughed out loud so much at a picture on here. But I likes em’ all this week. Good work, guys.

The Spider-villains piece is just full of inspired casting choices. I can’t even pick a favorite.

MIC YOU KILLED ME! YOU KILLED ME, I LOVE IT.

It’s not as striking as Mic? or Nick’s piece (both of which are damned good, mind you), but I really like Chaz Folgar’s drawing this week. It’s such a great male bonding moment, and I love the way he got it all across without any dialogue.

The only criticism I can make of Spider-Bart is this: he should be shouting “¡Ay Carumba!”

the dialogue from the spider-villains is really perfect. I could completely picture the bits from Smithers and Seymour’s mother being from the show.

This week TLIID truly embiggens us all.

I honestly, with no hyperbole whatsoever, almost spit out my drink as I scrolled down and saw Mic?s entry. I think that might be the best thing to come out of the New 52 so far. All the others were home runs as well. Yet another great week.

Awesome job Nick. From my generic idea, turns it into gold. Combining the one armed Curt Conners and Herman as the Lizard, brilliant! The elderly Adrian Toomes Vulture becomes Mr. Burns. And turning them all into members of the Sinister Six no less.

The only funny thing though, is that out of the six pieces only one featured any of the actual Simpsons family. Says a lot about the writing and the characters.

Mic, mic, mic — I’ve tried shaking my head like an Etch-a-Sketch — and now I think I have a concussion…

Great round indeed, Nick’s casting choices as well as their lines are inspired, and Mic?s piece…and Reverend…and…

Great stuff guys.

But Brian, it should be “click on image to embiggen”, shouldn’t it…

Correct, Travis.

Mr Burns is totally the vulture. Great stuff, guys!

Oh, this is is so awesome. I want more!!!

I think I would actually be happy if this feature were just Simpsons-meets-comics every single week.

About Mic? work……..Eeeeeee-riiiiiiiiieeeeee…!!

Grall’s……..Somehow, this is perfect…..until the Joker shows up..!! ;)

Spider-Bart Vs. the Sinister Springfield Six……..Classic in the making..!! LOL

Love it.

I was just saying how current-period Simpsons works best when it abandons its structure and just goes for something different (couch gags by Banksy and John K, the cast as Muppets, the many wonderful homages to other animated works in Angry Dad: The Movie), and I would watch an entire Flanders/Demon teamup episode.

…or at least a segment in a Halloween show.

(Speaking of, since we’re talking Simpsons/comic book pastiches, this year’s issue of Treehouse of Horror is amazing. It features an EC homage by Jim Woodring, and if there’s anybody who can read that sentence and not at least have his curiosity piqued I can only assume he doesn’t know what EC is or who Woodring is.)

Flanders fighting Klarion and Etrigan is just priceless

Dammit, Mic?. The goggles do nothing.

Damn, wish I suggested Dazzler and Disco Stu.

I would’ve like to have seen Black Lantern Maude Flanders & Black Lantern Bleeding Gums Murphy.

I laughed till I cried. Seriously, each one was more fabulous than the next.

You should do a Futurama theme week.

Crazy Cat Lady in That Scene is the funniest thing all week.

The Sinister Six is pure genius. I can’t believe I never noticed the resemblance between Electro’s headgear and Sideshow Bob’s hair before.

In the words of one Nelson Muntz: “HA-Haw!”

In the span of one TLIID week, we achieved several pairs of burnt eyes, a hernia, a concussion, one dead body (sorry, Daniel), and much laughter in-between. And those are just the reported incidents.

You all spoil my inner sadist, you know. ;D I give my thanks and apologies to all you brilliant artists, suggestion-givers, and CSBG enthusiasts! I love TLIID!

I’ll be going now before the newly-blinded demand reparations for not being able to read this comment! Hee…

Peace.

Everyone is talking about CatLady but Reverend cracked me up too.

Laughing my butt off at Ned fighting Klarion!!!

IT says a lot about the depth of the Simpsons that Luke Ski was able to do a parody song called

“88 lines about 44 Simpsons” about TEN OR MORE YEARS AGO, and nearly all of them be recurring characters (plus the creator of the series).

TLID did it! TLID did it! LOL Sorry guys I had to go there but as a long time Simpsons fan, this was well done.

And now I am craving for a Reverend Limited Series done by Ennis and Groening… Damn You Daniel!

The S.S.S.vs Spider-Bart needed a Bartman, Radioactive Man or Pieman cameo to be epic (although Mrs.Skinner mothering Skinner the Hunter was a great touch!)

The Demon and Ned: The Pious Odd Couple!

Catlady and Batman: Who knew she was a Cougar? HA-HA!

Castle and Skinner… I can see it now…”Frank you think you got problems? Let me tell you about this boy named Bart Simpson…” After 5 mins, Bart goes to the top of the Punisher’s Hitlist!

Finally, now I know Canaan, why it appeared that I saw Krusty flying across the moon last night. Harley’s a strong lass!

Great Job All Around!

[…] The Line It Is Drawn #62 – Comic Book Characters/Simpsons Characters – Smooth Charlie’s Click of the Week is almost too awesome for words, and I’m not even a big comic book fan.  This is worth clicking for the drawing of Lovejoy as “Reverend” alone, and that’s just one of them.  […]

Damn, good stuff you guys!

Caanan: Harley’s glee is contagious! Great job!

mic?: Man, you delivered the goods, brotha! My eyes are crispy, and my belly’s full o’ laughs! Who’ da thunk Batman was all about GILF!? Excellent work!

Sean: I totally dig the steadfast courage of pious Ned, the dangerous smirk of Klarion, and the brute power of the Demon — pure poetry, neighborino!

Daniel: A fantastic homage with amazing colors!

Nick: You captured all of their voices perfectly! Sideshow Bob as Electro is perfect!

‘Til next time!

I used to be a Simpsons fan, but that was on the very early seasons before the show became its own joke (some series should just not keep going on no matter how popular.)

THAT said, I enjoyed many of these week’s pieces:

-Skinner and Punisher does nothing for me because I can’t stand Punisher, and war stories even less. Nothing wrong with the piece itself though.

-Hmm, I somehow expected Sideshow Harley to be funnier. Still good.

-ARRGH with the Cat Lady! You just HAD to do THAT homage didn’t you Mic?? But I admit it’s hilarious.

-Flanders and The Demon works far better than I expected. Extra points for throwing in Ned’s undead wife! (and Klarion- this is a very cool character but I don’t think most modern writers really “get” him, not the way Kirby intended- but you could say the same about Etrigan.)

-Never read Preacher, never intend to, therefore that Piece doesn’t work for me either.

-I’m surprised how well the Spder-Bart one works- the art, the character choices, the jokes… it WOULD make a great actual Simpsons episode (or comic.) Winner.
