Name That Silver Surfer Artist!
All November-long, I will be sharing four panels featuring a comic book character. They will each be drawn by four separate pencilers. I will be featuring only pieces of art where the penciler did full pencils (as otherwise it would be way too difficult). Your challenge is to, simply put, name that artist!
E-mail me your guesses to bcronin@comicbookresources.com. Do NOT make guesses in the comments section! After a week, I’ll post the correct answers on the archive page along with whoever guessed them correctly. You don’t have to name the issues the panels came from, but if you’d like to, knock yourself out.
Read on for the four Silver Surfer panels…

The last one is the only one I actually like here – except he looks like The Watcher.

I know #3 because I recognize the issue that it came from. My personal favorite Silver Surfer artists are of course Jack Kirby and John Buscema. I also love the way Silver Surfer talks. I thought it was hilarious how Mephisto just wanted to mess with the Surfer.

My favorite Silver Surfer artist was Ron Lim. Hate that none of his art was up there.

Yeah, I know #3 too, but it’s the only one I recognize offhand.

That’s funny, Heath Thompson, I thought I’d be the only one who liked Ron Lim’s Silver Surfer best of all. I pretty much grew up with it, and I always think of Ron Lim as the Silver Surfer artist.

Yeah me too. I starter reading comics about the time of Infinity Gauntlet. In the back of my mind I always hope Marvel would bring him back and have Ron Marz write it.

Oh how funny, at some point I’d totally forgotten that Ron Marz and Ron Lim were two different Rons and started thinking, “Well, at least I liked his art.” But no, I guess I just liked Lim, never Marz.

lol I figured that Ron Marz would be easier to get than Jim Starlin.

Yeah, Ron Lim was the perfect Silver Surfer artist!!! I loved the reflections in his body, and would be trying to spot the faces as I was reading. Good times!

In #3, the Surfer looks more like Iceman than anything else. Iceman back in the 60s, that is.

Oddly enough, that was my first thought on seeing No. 2!

Image #1 is from one of my favourite stories….any time…..anywhere. The fourth image is from one of the most underrated artists working in comics and comes from a run that they did on the character that was absolutely beautiful.
