The Line It Is Drawn #66 – Comic Book Characters and Futurama!

Go follow Comics Should Be Good on Twitter (if you have Twitter, that is – if you don’t, you can go sign up). Here is our Twitter page… http://twitter.com/csbg. And here are the Comics Should Be Good writers who are on Twitter (the links go to the person’s Twitter account) – myself, Greg Hatcher, Chad Nevett, Kelly Thompson, Sonia Harris Danielle Leigh, Melinda Beasi, Michelle Smith, Bill Reed and Scott!

I update the blog’s Twitter account updates whenever a new post is put up on the blog, so it’s an easy way to keep up with the blog. In addition, I post new content on the blog’s Twitter account.

Now on to the bit!

So every week, I ask a question here. You reply to it on our Twitter page (just write @csbg with your reply) and our SEVEN blog sketch artists will each pick one of your suggestions and I will post them here every week. So every week you will have a new question and you will see the top six choices from the previous week. Here is an archive of all the previous editions of The Line It Is Drawn!

To qualify, you have to be following us when you reply – so go follow us and then give your answer to the following question/challenge (All suggestions due by 9:00 AM Pacific, Friday, November 18th).

Next week’s theme is…

Thanks for the classics! Pick a comic book character and a classic novel/play/poem that you’d like to see the character mashed into. Just tell us the character and the novel/play/poem – our artists will figure out how to work them in! Batman/Jane Eyre, Elektra/Electra, etc.

Read on for the six sketches that came about courtesy of the last question/challenge!

Team-up or mash-up any comic book character with a character from the animated series Futurama!

Enjoy!

I’ll put them in alphabetical order based on the name of the Twitter user who made the suggestion.

All copyright and trademarks of the following characters are held by their respective owners!

I… uh… wow. Speechless.

great stuff, all around. The Phil LaMarr limbo league needs Vamp, though– he’d surpass even Hermes.

Wow, Bender is very popular!

Chaz’s pieces is kinda trippy and it made my head feel funny. I really dug it.

I want to know how Canaan finds time to keep up with the column, post new Max Overacts strips, and get the Max Overacts book ready for production!

One of the pieces has a typo… can you find it?

And Zoidberg as King of Atlantis is awesome!

Great work from all the artists, but I’m a bit let down that Bender dominated the whole thing. Futurama has a ton of great characters. I’m especially sad Zapp Branagin didn’t show up, perhaps to arrest the Starjammers or run crying from Galacticus. I guess that’s what I get for not tweeting.

A suggestion for the Zoidburg caption:

“That underwear! I found such a pair once! The tastiest in the dumpster!”

(V)_(;,,,; )_(V) Hooray for Zoidberg!
And also, Bender is great. So. There’s always that.

Dammit, Brian. If you’re trying to get me to register a Twitter account, you’re doing a damn good job.

“Someone tell the Lost City of Atlanta that we found their village idiot!”

Suddenly, a Brain Michael Bender comes to mind . . .

“Bight my shiny, metal, decompressed ass!”

Namor + Zoidberg looks pretty good but doesn’t really do well by itself, it NEEDS a funny caption! Bring them!

Bender as Dark Machine Man: Ok now THIS is funny!! Best piece in fact, overall. Congrats! :D

X-Men/Futurama is funny too but only in the latter’s art style, the first one is proof why Bender and Crew should NEVER be drawn realistically!

Machine Man and Bender again? Well it’s pretty well drawn but not as inspired as the first.

It took me a moment to “get” the Limbo joke on the Phil Lamarr one… but it is kinda funny. Samurai Jack in particular was never given a proper finale, too bad.

The X-Men in Caanan’s piece are too small to make out, that ruined for me what is likely a good piece.

No one reported my idea of Magnus Robot Fighter vs The Futurama robots? (and I will not post them myself again. I’m done with twitter, sorry.) Oh well. I’m still going to throw ideas around here just for the heck of it. For next week: Brother Voodoo vs the Zombies in Pride And Prejudice and Zombies!

Somehow, King Bender of the Sentinel have myself LOLing the most……Although I didn’t see the one involving Emma Frost & Leela coming. 8)

The Limbo League wins for me.

Alright, so
Sean – Love the crown and the shocked look on Namor’s face.
Daniel – Love Bender’s paint job and rant.
Nick – Always love the double effort you put in every week, and who doesn’t love a little mutant on mutant girl lovin? Nobody, that’s who.
Chaz – If Daniel Clowes and Jack Kirby had a baby, his name would be Chaz.
Mic? – I hate to say this, but… how low can you go? (Translation – I suggested this team hoping you’d pick them)
Caanan – You’re killing me, man! One short of a total sweep. But I love the Bendinel teamup. So you rock and I still love ya!

Zoidberg: “So you are Prince of Atlantis, huuuhhh?”

Namor: “I AM The Prince YOU insufferable crust….”

Zoidberg: “But I WEAR the crown and sit on the throne! So Zoidberg WINS! Take him away!”

Namor: “I will snap you in half you…”

Zoidberg: :The CROWN has spoken. Away with you Numbor!”

Bender and Machine Man are classic….. Bender and a Sentinel is grounds for ARMAGEDDON!

Leela and Frost…. damn that’s a weird but hot fantasy….

My winner for the week is the Phil Lamarr tribute. Thank you Mic for the tribute to the often overlooked voice maestro!

Zoidberg, “You may be king of the seas, but I am king of the Oceans! The Pacific, the Atlantic, and those other six ones. Go back to the Mediterranean!”

Wow – my “Brian Michael Bender” comment looked much harsher in print than it sounded in my head . . .

Apologies to anyone out there who took offense, especially BMB should he happen to be checking in. My intent was to just play off the sound of the name – wasn’t looking to render any harsh judgements . . .

Zoidberg: “Perhaps those shorts come in a few sizes bigger, maybe?”

I too am disappointed this was so Bender-centric. No Amy, Nibbler, Zapp, Kif, or even Scruffy?!

A crossover with Profession Farnsworth and Reed Richards… or Galactus and Nibbler at a hot-dog eating contest (where Nibbler wins by eating Galactus)

After seeing the Phil LaMarr League I went on Wikipedia to see what else he has done. What cartoon has Phil LaMarr not done!!! That guys knows how to keep busy! lol

The thing I’m most impressed by this week is Mic’s amazing job adapting John, Jack, and Static to the Futurama/Simpsons art style. Lots of people try to draw in that style and don’t get it quite right. Mic’s drawing looks like it came straight out of the Groening-verse. Good job, man.

Thank you, Darrel B. for your captions of the Namor/Dr. Zoidberg one. :D

Caption:
“your ankle wings confuse and arouse me…”

Yeah Mic? did a phenomenal job this week. From the story telling to the styling it was spot on.

In general his work has just been getting better and better.

Futurama is the only nonliving thing I like more than comics.

Zoidberg: “The box… says no.”

Sweet work, Sean, Daniel, Nick, Chaz, & Caanan!

Thanks so much for the shouts, everyone! I’m very happy you enjoy my piece! Couldn’t have done it without Big Mike! Being a big Phil LaMarr fan, I was just so amazed by the suggestion when I came across it that I took the bait, hook, line, and sinker not knowing I was targeted! haha (Anyone else as bitter as I am that Phil won’t be in JUSTICE LEAGUE: DOOM? Grrrr…)

Anyway, thanks to the other artists and suggestion-givers for inspiring me non-stop week-in/week-out; and thanks to Brian and all the readers for always being there to help and watch me grow/evolve. I would be honored to be your artist Chia Pet if you let me.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Chia!

‘Til next week, friends!

Peace.

No Prob PaxHouse… It naturally popped into my head as I saw the piece…Inspired work that caught Zoidberg’s pose perfectly…

Pretty amazing work! I like the zoidberg one the best :)
