The Line It Is Drawn #68 – Superfy ‘Em!

Go follow Comics Should Be Good on Twitter (if you have Twitter, that is – if you don’t, you can go sign up). Here is our Twitter page… http://twitter.com/csbg. And here are the Comics Should Be Good writers who are on Twitter (the links go to the person’s Twitter account) – myself, Greg Hatcher, Chad Nevett, Kelly Thompson, Sonia Harris Danielle Leigh, Melinda Beasi, Michelle Smith, Bill Reed and Scott!

I update the blog’s Twitter account updates whenever a new post is put up on the blog, so it’s an easy way to keep up with the blog. In addition, I post new content on the blog’s Twitter account.

Now on to the bit!

So every week, I ask a question here. You reply to it on our Twitter page (just write @csbg with your reply) and our SEVEN blog sketch artists will each pick one of your suggestions and I will post them here every week. So every week you will have a new question and you will see the top six choices from the previous week. Here is an archive of all the previous editions of The Line It Is Drawn!

To qualify, you have to be following us when you reply – so go follow us and then give your answer to the following question/challenge (All suggestions due by 9:00 AM Pacific, Friday, December 2nd).

Next week’s theme is…

In honor of our departing artists, we’re going back to our very first them – team-up two comic book characters that have never had a team-up before!

Read on for the six sketches that came about courtesy of the last question/challenge!

Superify it! Pick a person, real or fictional, and our artists will draw them as a superhero.

Enjoy!

I’ll put them in alphabetical order based on the name of the Twitter user who made the suggestion.

Great job, everybody!

Thanks for the awesome suggestions, folks and what great pieces!

Go make a TON of suggestions, people! We have a BUNCH of people trying out, so I’d like to give them as much variety of choices as possible!

Also, this will be the last drawings by Caanan, George and Daniel – wouldn’t you like to be the person who suggested their last pieces?

I wouldn’t be at all shocked to see Ce-Lo in that outfit at some point in the near future. Totally digging it

Although I get Tek Jansen and the Flaming C, I must admit I’m at a loss when it comes to Busboy-Man. Leslie Knope is awesome.

Busboy is the name of Stewart’s production company that produces the Daily Show.

Love the touch of Burton in Danger Mouse regalia.

I thought we were going to get a lot more choices, what happened to all the othere entries

Great stuff here, but I’m a little confused (maybe I’m being daft), where are all the pieces by the auditioning artists (he asks with a great deal of self-interest)?
Thanks!

They’re all so good!

If I have to pick one I’m going for Canaan, but man,
everyone killed it.

The other drawings will have their own entries. I figure roughly 20 drawings to each entry. They’ll be popping up throughout Thursday.

Great work all around, as always, but I’m particularly excited to see They Might Be Giants in there. “They call me.. Dr Worm!”

They’re all great but I’m partial to Caanan’s Leslie Knope (great rendering and great joke) and Daniel’s Grant Morrison (well done!)

Can’t wait to see the rest of ‘em!

“Grant Morrison” – “The All Thought” is just perfect.

Holy Crap, it’s the Super Giants!
Love them all, great work
Isn’t the Conan/Colbert/Stewart piece Mic, not Chaz though?

Thanks, Mike, weird mistake there!

I love Caanan’s.

What was Nick thinking? They Might Be Giants as super-heroes, and no sign of Particle Man?!?

Omg, I love the TMBG one! And the Grant Morrison one is brilliant. Great stuff all around.

@Mary – Doh! Why didn’t I think of that?
Errr what I mean of course, is – what? you can’t see him? I guess he is pretty small…
I should have included Triangle Man though…!

@Mary Warner: Particle Man’s there, but really really really small, so small none of us can see him. I think the water got him instead…

Excellent job all! I especially love Nick Perks’ TMBG riffs.

Again, I’m at a loss with some of these because I just don’t get the references. Who are Ce Lo Green, Leslie Knope, pr John Linnell & John Flansburgh? (I DO know who Conan, Stephen and Stewart, are Thank You. I even know where Conan got that costume from.) So I really can’t comment well on most of the pieces, other than to say that they are well drawn (as usual.) In that sense, Mic’s was the best this week.

Departing artists!? Who’s leaving?

I want to see Eliza Dushku and John Mellencamp as superheroes.

Another great week by everyone. I especially liked Leslie Knope (both because it’s a great drawing, and a great show) and “I’m going to need more drugs!” It sucks we’re losing such talented artists, but will be fun to see what the new people are capable of.

Any chance you’ll open this up for Google+ participation (for those non-twitterers who enjoy the feature :))?

Sijo, the Johns, Linnell & Flansburgh, are better known as Brooklyn based band They Might Be Giants. If you’re not familiar with their music, they are definitely worth checking out. I’ve been a fan for 20+ years

Okay, it looks like my submission of Amanda Palmer as the Black Fu@&!ng Canary didn’t get picked. Can I still participate in the next round?

These are different, Donna. The new entries will be going up throughout the afternoon.

Brilliant work lads! I love them all in their own special way, but the “I’m going to need more drugs,” line and the inclusion of the Flaming C really stole my heart this week.

Is it wrong that I would like to see the continued drug addled exploits of Grant Morrison? I mean that as genuinely as possible.

Isn’t Grant Morrison already a superhero?

“Is it wrong that I would like to see the continued drug addled exploits of Grant Morrison? I mean that as genuinely as possible.”

Didn’t Grant just write an autobiographical comic recently? I would assume that “drug addled expolits of Grant Morrison” describes that pretty accurately.

Okie dokie, thanks Brian!

Fail on Cee-Lo. His arms are only about 14 inches long in real life!

Yikes! I think I liked it better when Cee Lo played that killer hot tub in that one episode of American Dad.

Caanan, thanks for drawing Leslie. It’s great work!

THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS!!!!

YAY!!!

I’m so thrilled to have a suggestion of mine drawn by Chaz Folgar. Andre the Giant, very cool. Amazing work by everyone as usual.

c’mon peeps! give us some last good picks! Bah, as far as penultimate Lines, its nice knowing how much better we left that line that when it started. You’ve all become standards of quality through which the new guys will be judged. I think thats a mighty fine achievement. Andre the Giant looks so damn cool like a graffiti New God. Ceelo Green is the most funkadelic superhero I’ve ever seen and you can really see how much Sean’s work has grown through out the weeks.

Leslie Knope, the reminder that I won’t be getting my regular doses of Caanan art. bah! Say it ain’t so. Such great work and character. i love the joke. I’m sadly not familar with the members of They Might Be Giants so I guess the joke is lost to me beyond they’re band name. Still, i love the retro feel and coloring instructions. not enough of that, these days.

Then it’s Busboy, killing it like a mad-man. I’m a Stewart fanboy so that piece instantly popped for me, Goddamn that’s some nice coloring, Mic!

Leslie Knope is a hoarder, not an Organizer. Didn’t you see the episode where Ann cleans her house?

Hoarders are organizers. It may look like mountains of rubbish to the rest of us, but they know exactly where everything is.

Besides, can’t she be both?

Loved Nick’s TMBG submission. So many possibilities for what you coulda done for that one. Super Tasters immediately popped to my mind. ; )

There’s a good chance I woulda tackled that one instead, if it was available for the open call artists. I couldn’t figure out why I didn’t see of these suggestions on my list, until I realized that you guys woulda been given first picks, in order to prevent the rest of us from doing the same pieces.

CHAZ: Excellent superfication! I’m a Shepard Fairey fan so your direction just couldn’t be more awesome for me. You’re a clever one!

DANIEL: Our Redesign King came through w/ a snazzy design! I love everything about it down to his word balloons. lol Your piece was already so hot, but I’m glad you added those cuz they brought it all home.

SEAN: Thank you for choosing Cee Lo! I loved him since his Goodie Mob days. I can actually hear him hitting the note to set off his sonic scream.

CAANAN: Dude. How dare you leave us just when you show us how much damage your ink wash skills can do! Sickness!

NICK: This will be the only time I call attention to it cuz it should be as undetectable as it is now, but I LOVE your hand lettering! It totally fits and feels like essential parts to your style and piece. Kudos to you, good sir. Ku. Dos.

Glad you dig my piece, SIJO, SEAN, & DANIEL! I tried a new technique with color rendering and even I was shocked at how it turned out. I was even worried for a hot second that I would be accused of tracing, but I said screw it! I was too pleased w/ the results and I know I didn’t so I’m good w/ that. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to draw a couple of my heroes, BIG MIKE!

Onwards to D-Day…!

Peace.

Late to the party, but I couldn’t stop laughing at the Morrison one.
