The Line it is Drawn Try-Out Week 1, Group 5

All day, I’ll be posting entries in groups of 20 artists an entry. Check their work out and marvel at all the great talent on display here. Then, next week, after these artists do a second drawing, we’ll ask you all to vote on your favorites. I’ll also have a group of judges vote for their favorites. I’ll combine the votes and we’ll end up with the two new regular artists for The Line it is Drawn. We’ll also be picking out one regular alternate artist for the Line it is Drawn, but I’ll let you know how we’re picking that artist a little later on.

So kick back and check out some nifty artwork, all based on the same theme as The Line it is Drawn this week, which was “Turn a famous person/character into a superhero or supervillain.”

Enjoy!

These were my standouts: Robert Rath, Marco D’Alfonso, Alejandro Ramirez Sanchez , Erik Reeves, Erik Reeves (AWESOME COSTUME DESIGN!),

Robert Rath, Adriano, Marco D’Alfonso and Alejandro Ramirez Sanchez are my faves from this round.

Wow, SO MUCH WIN here. Ramirez Sanchez’s Chaplin and Rath’s Mythbusters are great. But I also really like the stuff from Fontenelle, Higgins, LeClaw, Karvounis and Fyke.

Ugh, these are all soo good… If I had to pick a favourite, Medina’s Hellboy, or Screech vs Urkel…

‘Buster’s Revenge’ is the standout for me.

The Alan Moore/Dream is great. They’re all great. Grrr. Next week is going to be fun.

Again, so much awesome here! The ones that stood out for me were Alfonso’s Prince pic (I love the symbol as Mjolnir gag), Marco’s nerd battle and Erik’s elegant Annie piece.

Also, glad to see Marco here. I saw his work and had to invite him to try out!

This is the first batch I liked all of them, though the Mythbusters, the two Prince entries, and the Nerd vs. Nerd fight were the best.

I wonder how many people know the source of the hovercycle in the first Prince image?

Alejandro Ramirez, DAMN. that’s good work. I love superhero charlie chaplin and I’d read his adventures in a heart beat. I’m also really liking Marc D’alfonso’s super nerd battle thing!

Robert Rath is right, though. that drawing IS approved of by The Line it is Drawn authority.

Cerebus, Dynamic Mythbuster duo, Prince Space Knight, Hellyboy, Amelia Earhardt the Invisible Woman, Urkel vs Screech, Chaplin and the Kid, Super Orphan Annie, Dr Claus were the standout pieces

Erik Reeves’ Annie is clever.

There are some really cool pieces! The detail in Robt Seda-Schreiber’s Prince SPACEKNIGHT piece is incredible. Is that eyeshadow I see? Great job everyone!

Robt Seda-Schreiber’s Prince SPACEKNIGHT piece is the best!

Robert Rath & Marco D’Alfonso!

Alonso Nunez’ prince is funktastic!!! Great line work

I love that Annie piece. It’s so simple. I also like how her standard dot eyes go from cute to cosmically menacing. Brilliant.

While I find all of the art work to be amazing it took me by surprise that “Prince” was picked by 2 artists as a superhero. It’s a very out of the box concept and can go in so many directions. The drawing by Robert Seda-Schreiber captures what a non monster, super star, superhero could be, I remember seeing his work as “Obama” portraying Superman. This young man certainly has a wonderful sense of imagination filtered through irony,

Robert Rath, Alejandro Ramirez Sanchez .. get my vote

The Mythbusters piece is fabulous, and both of the different Prince pieces are great.

Gosh, I’m very flattered by the kudos received on my “Prince Spaceknight” work (although in the spirit of full disclosure, the above poster “Les” is indeed my uncle (& a wonderful man with great taste in art), but perhaps his “vote” should be discounted lest there be charges of nepotism).
I am further honored to be in the company of such other great work as well; This is truly a wonderful experience.
I did want to let you kids know that as I ruminate on my piece, I am now thinking it may’ve been stronger in black & white & I have posted that version on my site as well @ “very secret monster things”, http://sweetestbaboon.blogspot.com/, should any of you god people want to see the difference.
Thanks again to Brian for doing all this; It’s a massive undertaking I’m sure & it means a great deal to a whole bunch of us!

Erik Reeves…and Ostapiuk…good stuff guys

Thanks to everyone that enjoyed my Mythbusters piece! It’s one of my fave shows, and was a great “artistic vacation” to come up with something fun. I’m totally blown away by the other artists, and excited to see what everyone comes up with for week #2. Picked out my next subject and I’m really giving it everything I’ve got — the competition is too fierce for anything less. Good luck to everyone and thanks again for the compliments!

These three are very cool:

Leslie Fontenelle gives us a superhero Cerebus

Robert Rath drew the Mythbusters as superheroes

Marco D’Alfonso drew a face-off between Urkel and Skreech

Elmo as a Villian, by DaRule LeClaw stands alone in its creativity.

The drawing by DaRule LeClaw is fantastic even though DaRule is a dick.

Hellmo reminds me of the materialism involved in children toys for sure.
If you don’t buy me you will die.

Nice work DaRule LeClaw!!!!

‘Hellmo’ all the way ftw!! Darule is da man!

I think DaRule LeClaw rocks…..

Helmo FTW!!!
