The Line It Is Drawn #70 – Happy Holidays!

Go follow Comics Should Be Good on Twitter (if you have Twitter, that is – if you don’t, you can go sign up). Here is our Twitter page… http://twitter.com/csbg. And here are the Comics Should Be Good writers who are on Twitter (the links go to the person’s Twitter account) – myself, Greg Hatcher, Chad Nevett, Kelly Thompson, Sonia Harris Danielle Leigh, Melinda Beasi, Michelle Smith, Bill Reed and Scott!

I update the blog’s Twitter account updates whenever a new post is put up on the blog, so it’s an easy way to keep up with the blog. In addition, I post new content on the blog’s Twitter account.

Now on to the bit!

So every week, I ask a question here. You reply to it on our Twitter page (just write @csbg with your reply) and our SIX blog sketch artists will each pick one of your suggestions and I will post them here every week. So every week you will have a new question and you will see the top six choices from the previous week. Here is an archive of all the previous editions of The Line It Is Drawn!

To qualify, you have to be following us when you reply – so go follow us and then give your answer to the following question/challenge (All suggestions due by 9:00 AM Pacific, Wednesday, December 28th).

We’re taking next week off, so we’ll be back the first week of January. The topic is…

Team-up or mash-up comic book characters with characters from the Harry Potter books/movies!

Read on for the six sketches that came about courtesy of the last question/challenge!

Happy Holidays! Simply name a comic book character and our artists will come up with a Holiday-themed drawing featuring said character. if you want to suggest a Holiday theme along with the character, go right ahead, but it is not necessary.

I’ll put them in alphabetical order based on the name of the Twitter user who made the suggestion, with our three departing original artists going last (also in alphabetical order of the Twitter user).

Welcome to our two new artists!

Thanks to all our suggestion-givers and thanks to all of the artists for the great artwork!

Hope everyone has a great holiday and we’ll see you again in the New Year!

By the way, before we go, Nick Perks did a special Christmas present drawing for frequent suggestion-giver Big Mike. It is not exactly “safe for work,” so be forewarned before you click on the drawing here.

So, what’s the deal with all the Watchers?

I believe they are watching. ;)

I am at a loss for words Nick. Bless you my friend.

I love this week’s sub-theme. Six Watchers watching! The Grinchbuster Armor design is hilarious. And great choices for the new regulars, I must say. Welcome, lads!

Couldn’t be more proud of the guys! I’ll be totally honest, I instantly missed all the e-mail back and forths when the suggestions come in. As for this week’s entries, They’re all just fantastic pieces of art!

Chaz keeps it awesome with his Holiday Iron-man, which If no one noticed, actually shoots candy canes from its repulsors, hah! great stuff, man! Also, Nick is really taking the digital coloring to heart, and what he’s doing with it is just blowing my mind! GIF ENTRIES ALL AROUND!!

Sean, You’re doing some fantastic work with your coloring! I’m really enjoying the expressions you drew on each character, it really makes everyone in the piece very unique. I told Mic this over tumblr, but seriously Spawn with Emma’s corset is just too brilliant to pass up, I hadn’t realized how much that design he has looks like a corset before this instant.

As for the new kids on the block, Consider me forgotten! hahaha, seriously these two guys are more than talented enough to handle anything that goes their way, and they do! Brendan even makes me enjoy the Red Hulk, even if just for a moment. And last we have Steve. Wow, probably my favorite placement of Uatu out of all 6. There’s so much going on in the image, but it’s all so nicely organized that I don’t have any trouble reading it at all. Cheers!

I’ve to go now, I think Uatu is watching.

There is something indefinably right about Rorschach wearing Emma Frost’s panties on his head. Kudos, mr. Magtanong!

Thok: It’s the debut of two new TLIID artists, of course the Watcher would be paying close attention!

I can’t click the Hulk one to embiggen it.

I’m loving Brendan Tobin’s two Hulks…. that’s my favorite this round, so welcome Brendan!

I was hoping it was a “He knows when you’ve been sleeping, he knows when you’re awake” thing. Except the Watcher can’t interfere by giving gifts.

Is there anything I can say except holy crap those new guys are good? Spawn in a corset is probably one of my favorite images of the year.

The Watcher watching Christmas traditions was one of my suggestions…And I believe Nick worked in another one…

And congrats to the two new artists! Stellar jobs on your debuts.

Can someone tell me who the guy who appears in Nick Perks’s pic is? I don’t recognize him.

@Astrozac – true! We all did “The Watcher observing various Christmas traditions” and I also threw in “Starro on top of a Christmas tree” (anyone notice?) and “The Doctor (Doctor Who) intruding on one of the other suggestions. ‘Sorry, I’m in the wrong Christmas special…'”
I don’t know who was responsible for each idea, I only know that I don’t have any…!

The Doctor Who intrusion was mine… didn’t think anyone would do it, and at first, I didn’t think anybody did, because I missed the animation on my first pass through.

I also suggested Emma donating her old costumes idea, and that one was great, Mic?… and much love for including Molly which I didn’t request or expect, but Runaways is one of my favorite comics. She actually looks looks kinda fabulous in that getup!

I can’t click the Hulk one to embiggen it.

It’s weird – the last couple of entries, when I’ve inserted the images, they haven’t automatically included links to the larger images, like they did for the first, oh, 60+plus editions! So strange. It works now, though!

I totally did not get the e-mail about this week’s suggestions. Did anyone else miss out?

I’m going to print out the Iron Man pic an have me kid color it. Well done!

That was Dr. Who in the MM/Santa pic? Hell, I thought it was George Bailey.

I love Steve Howard’s Nightcrawler pic. Very slick. Santa drinking a Coke in the background is classic.

Emma Frost – clear winner.

Hahaha! Check out Santa chugging that CocaCola in Steve’s entry!

Good work from the new guys, welcome! The old ones too, thanks for staying.

thanks to everyone for the kind words, I’m so pleased to have been chosen and aim to improve each week :) glad people picked up on Santa drinking a coke I was worried Santa may come across a beer swigging drunk, well hope everybody enjoys the holidays

I’d like to second what Steve said. Thanks for all the positive comments and the warm welcomes, I feel lucky to be included with such talented folks week after week. Nice work done by all and happy holidays to you all.

Chaz – Brilliant, all those touches were perfect for the holiday armor.

Nick – Your Santa is perfect, love the whole piece.

Sean – You always manage to deliver the comedy when needed!

Mic – It doesn’t take the wisdom of Solomon to know Emma’s shorty-shorts would make an awesome hat.

Brendan – Welcome to the Line! Your Hulk piece is Incredible! (Boo, I know bad joke)

Steve – Welcome to the Line! Love the piece.

Finally, Nick, once more. Wow. I must have been a really good boy this year to get a bonus piece like that. Sincere thanks, and happy holidays to all!

Steve and Brenda: Beware! here comes TLIID’s local Grinch!!

Just kidding! :D I seem to have a bad rep here because I don’t just go “wow everything was amazing!” every time like the rest, but I always mean my comments in the best way possible, and am very grateful for the effort put out for us. So, welcome to the site and don’t mind me very much! :P

And now, my comments:

I don’t see why Iron Man would need a special armor to bust The Grinch, who isn’t exactly formidable (except when his Heart Grew Three Times As Big, and then he wasn’t bad anymore) but still, nice visual. But why is The Watcher there?

Martian Manhunter stealing Santa’s cookies is BRILLIANT (tough that *kind of* happened in an episode of the animated Justice League series once) and Perk’s art never fails to please. But- Still doing the animations? Who is that, The Doctor? Yes, I know he does Xmas Specials too (and rather destructive ones btw). I find that annoying. And hey, Uatu’s here too? Wait is this a-

-Running Gag? Oh I see. OK, I like that. Though I suspect the only reason he’s being used is because of his awful Xmas team-up with Spider-Man story that CSBD was talking about not that long ago. Oh, Groot and Rocket Raccoon are there too. Don’t care much for either, but the art is nice.

-OK, THIS one takes the cake as oddest this time. White Queen’s costume for homeless people?? Still it was a riot. Definitely the funniest. (Didn’t recognize Rorschach or Molly at first.)

-I don’t care about Red Hulk, but this is otherwise a nice postcard-style piece. Well done.

-Steve’s piece is second funny only to Mic’s, and I LOVE the attention to detail! Could he be our new Caanan? :)

-Perks, you evil, evil man! How could you do that to poor Squirrel Girl? (OK, it was very sexily drawn, but still!) You’re on Santa’s Naughty List now! :D

(and Daniel, nice to still see you around, even if only to make comments.)

Overall, a very good week, and a solid showing by our newcomers. Thanks to everyone for the ideas AND the art, and To All, A Good Night!

Sijo, I take issue with you calling Nick evil for his depiction of Squirrel Girl. How is it evil to bring joy to a devoted Squirrel Girl fan? ^_^

Mike: that’s an in-joke. It’s what SG calls Deadpool. ;)

Well played, Sijo.

Nice work by everyone, and welcome to the new guys!

My fave’s probably the Emma’s clothes one, but until Big Mike mentioned it, I didn’t figure out that the kid on the left was Billy Batson. Took me a second on Rorschach, but got a big laugh when it connected. Nice!

And the Squirrel Girl special drawing tells me that when they make the movie of SG, she should totally be played by Lady Gaga. The resemblance is uncanny! (maybe that’s just me…)

CHAZ: That’s what The Grinch gets for messin’ with our boy. No one steals from Uatu!

NICK: I lol’d so hard on my 2nd viewing when I saw something pop outta your piece. I was like “What was that??!?” hahah And I just now noticed Starro. It’s a piece that keeps on giving! A one-two punch and you knocked me out w/ BIG MIKE‘s sexy gift!

SEAN: I’ll always love the energy in your pieces! It’s like you take a photo w/ a camera w/ super-high shutter speed. I can feel Rocket Raccoon literally skittering all around Groot.

BRENDAN & STEVE: Welcome welcome!! :D Uatu in earmuffs should be a winter standard. And I didn’t know elves were Brits!

DANIEL: lol I hadn’t realized how fitting the corset was on Spawn myself until I put it on him. You will never be forgotten, my bro!

PETER: Thanks for the suggestion! So glad you got a kick out of it. I loves me some Runaways, too. So much so that it’s pathetic really.

Thanks for the kind words on my piece, DANIEL, DEAN, P.BOZ, PETER, SQUASHUA, BIG MIKE, SIJO, & TRAVIS!

Merry Christmas (and a Happy 2012), BRIAN & CSBGooders! You all have been the highlight of my 2011. Thanks for everything.
