The Line it is Drawn, Try-Out Week 3

From now until the end of January, the following ten artists are going to be drawing weekly pieces while trying out to become a new member of The Line it is Drawn artist roster.

Read on for their first week’s worth of pieces, based on The Line it is Drawn theme week of “Cover Homages”!

To see what each of these artists did in their first two weeks, click here for a refresher’s course.

I’ll put them in alphabetical order based on the name of the Twitter user who made the suggestion that they used.

Holy crap, that was a lot of amazing artwork!

WOW!

Awesome stuff, everybody! This will be an astonishingly tough call in a few weeks!

Namor and Me for the wank, er, win.

I agree — WOW!!! Everyone really outdid themselves this week. A lot of great artwork up above, and I’m proud to be in their company.

Agreed, great pieces here. I am of course partial to the great job John Trumbull did of my suggestion but so many other greats too…

Ha, I didn’t realize the try-out artists were using old suggestions/themes, so I’d already written off my Jubilee is a vampire suggestion off as unselected and pretty well forgotten it. It was a nice, and pleasant surprise to see it turn up! Lovely work, as were all the others!

Walko is my man, but I also loved the Elektra/Muppet

Glad I’m not making the final decision. Great job, everyone!

“My Sidekick is a Vampire!” is brilliant.

There is no way we could go wrong with these amazing Artists. Yukinori gets my vote based purely on the concept. They were all great.

Watchmen in Tibet is beautiful, but I love the Jubilee one – Deadpool and the copy of Twilight push it over the top.

Thanks for the great suggestion, AS! It was a lot of fun to do, and I hope it met your expectations!

WOW, I’m in good company here. They are ALL great!

I particularly enjoyed Marco’s Vampire Jubilee (with all it’s fun little details), John’s Watchmen in Tibet (nicely rendered), Yukinori’s Elektra Muppet (the felt up gag –heh), and Josh’s “Robin is a pervert” (great expressions!)

I got a real kick out of your piece too, Bill! Very funny & nice clean rendering!

Robin reading R. Crumb comics in a wonderful idea for his perversion. And how hilarious is it that Elektra is being transformed into Janice from the Muppets in Yukinori Xum’s piece?

So great, all of them! And gotta give Larry the Titan the love he deserves.

And we couldn’t get regular submissions for a reader gallery??

And we couldn’t get regular submissions for a reader gallery??

While I do find it weird that there wasn’t enough interest to keep the reader gallery going, being in a weekly spotlight feature like Line it is Drawn does give people more of a reason to contribute than they would with a monthly Reader Art Gallery.

Brian good thing you have multiple weeks on this because ALL of these are quality….. Phillip Sevy’s Planetary is my number one only because I love the series and the ironic nature of using them as the Fantastic Four, given the way that a darker version ended up butting heads with them over the series run.

Thanks Daryll! I agree. Of all the suggestions, this one was just too cool to pass up. Planetary is amazing and deserves 800 times more praise and coverage – ha!

Axel Medellin was my favourite here. really cool piece of work, but not the onyl one by far.

Wowzers. That was one of the best Line it is Drawn sets ever…

My god, blown away by how good these are. The suggestions themselves were strong which helps.

Bill and Yukinori get gold stars for double-entendreness, filthy stuff!

If nothing else I suspect you artists should see some commissions out of these.
I’m so seeing a possible Calvin and Hobbes-Tintin re-cover from John. Or maybe Supergirl and Streaky…

You know, as if Jubilee as a vampire isn’t interesting enough, it’s actually got me wondering what Deadpool (both the character and his powerset/weaknesses) would be like if he’d been turned…..

I’d be up for that, Dominic. Feel free to hit me up through my Deviant Art page.

Got give to Bat-mite and Larry!

WHoa! These guys were drawing like mad men! Pencils,Inks,Color,Text and all that jazz!

Man, these are great. The funny thing is that I thought, “Elektra turned into a muppet! How random and awesome.” — having totally forgotten that I suggested it. The inclusion of the Ringmaster and Abby Cadabby is pretty inspired. Namor and Me is pretty hilarious, too.

Great stuff here. The first piece was absolutely great but the creator made the small error of calling the planet Skaar and not Sakaar. Skaar is what Hulk’s son calls himself after the planet, making a small spelling error and sticking with it.
