Go follow Comics Should Be Good on Twitter (if you have Twitter, that is – if you don’t, you can go sign up). Here is our Twitter page… http://twitter.com/csbg. And here are the Comics Should Be Good writers who are on Twitter (the links go to the person’s Twitter account) – myself, Greg Hatcher, Chad Nevett, Kelly Thompson, Sonia Harris Danielle Leigh, Melinda Beasi, Michelle Smith, Bill Reed and Scott!

I update the blog’s Twitter account updates whenever a new post is put up on the blog, so it’s an easy way to keep up with the blog. In addition, I post new content on the blog’s Twitter account.

Now on to the bit!

So every week, I ask a question here. You reply to it on our Twitter page (just write @csbg with your reply) and our blog sketch artists will each pick one of your suggestions and I will post them here every week. So every week you will have a new question and you will see the choices picked from the previous week. Here is an archive of all the previous editions of The Line It Is Drawn!

To qualify, you have to be following us when you reply – so go follow us and then give your answer to the following question/challenge (All suggestions due by 6:00 AM Pacific, Friday, February 24th).

The topic is…

In honor of Kelly’s recent post, name a male superhero that you’d like to see wearing a female superhero’s costume. Green Arrow in Wonder Woman’s outfit, etc.

Read on for the sketches that came about courtesy of the last question/challenge!

Mash-up a comic book character and a famous music album cover!

Enjoy!

I’ll put them in alphabetical order based on the name of the Twitter user who made the suggestion.

Great work from everyone but I really like the work done by Josh, Bill, John, Axel, Steve, Brendan, Marco & Mic (your homages based Power Girl are both hilarious!), Thea and, especially Nick (really cool take on Elijah Snow and the White Album!). Ever since I discovered this column, I’m always excited to find out what you guys are cooking up!

Again a great selection all around, but have to pick She’s So Unusual as my favorite of the week.

Man am I glad everyone was kept from those tryouts. I’m consistently amazed at the art I’m seeing. Keep it up!

ANY male superhero in the Vampirella costume would automatically be “NSFW”… Eeeeexcellent.

Ah, Nick’s Hopey is sweet! But everyone’s stuff is excellent. It’s almost an embarassment of riches that we’ve got now. Yay us!

This is the most time I’ve spent looking at the NKOTB album cover, but in the lower left, look at the tshirt that what’shisface is wearing. Is that a Lichtenstein piece? A Kirby thing? Anyone know?

And I hate doing this and suggesting something someone could have done, because I’m not on the Twitter, don’t plan to be, etc, etc, but I understand that that’s how this feature works. But I missed last week, so that’s my excuse :)

But my special request would have been for Bill Walko to do either A Ghost is Born, Sky Blue Sky, or another album by that group. That’s right, a Wilco by Walko. (Maybe “Ghost” with Egg Fu….)

But yeah, I hate when other people do the “you should have done…” thing, and I apologize for doing it myself. I just wanted to make a stupid pun!

Wow! These are all so good. How do I get a poster of that Zatanna/Alice mash-up? It’s the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.

Awesome work this week

Man, how old were the New Kids when that picture was taken?

For the life of me, I can’t figure out who the “R” superheroine in the Birds of Prey image is supposed to be.

I think the “R” in Birds of Prey is Dove?

I was going to suggest Terry Long on “Ken: By Request Only” but I think it would look exactly the same.

Nice job, everybody.

These are all terrific. Damn, this is a fun feature.
Also, I am eager to see what next week brings…

These were some of the best ones yet. Loved every one of them! The Beast one is epic though…

They’re all awesome, BP/RD Highway to Hell is excellent.
But won’t Kelly be pissed off by most of them?

Everything seemed a little underwhelming this week. Except the Batwoman/Alanis Morisette mash-up.

Wish they would’ve gotten in an Avengers on the Wu-Tang Clan Forever album. I’m guessing there is a heavy metal bias among the artists.

All great stuff tho!

Am I the only one that thought that the Zatanna one should have been titled “eramthgiN yM oT emocleW”?

That would have made it perfect.

Great ones for this week……especially loved the ones utilizing the Zoo Crew (definitely make Scott Shaw extremely proud..!!), the New Warriors, Birds of Prey and (obviously no surprize) Power Girl.

@CutterMike…..Good point there about the one with Zatanna.

Someone needs to do Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours w/ The Vision and Scarlet Witch!

No Liz Sherman on the BPRD one? She’s much more important than Lobster Johnson. Who cares if there are only boys on the actual cover?

@CutterMike i must admit i did think about doing that but talked myself out of it as she’s not actually physically saying welcome to my nightmare in the picture, maybe i should have just done it

^One of my suggestions was General Zod and Ursa on Rumours… I think the Beast one was the most hilarious, and Brendan’s Thor was pretty good too. Lot of good ones again, but I think either Cynthia’s, Nick’s take on Planetary’s White Album or Daniel’s piece were my faves.

Seems this is a theme worth revisiting sometime.

That Zoo Crew one… I’ve seen those poses before for those characters, especially Yankee Poodle. Was that very accurate art or was that, dare I say, tracing?

So amazing! I just downloaded the Thor+AC/DC cover and replaced it in my music player :)

How about “Emoclew Ot Ym Eramthgun” in the Zattana/Alice Cooper cover? (too obvious?)

No Namor or Aquaman “doing” Nirvana’s “Nevermind”? Or would that have been too easy?

i literally laughed aloud at “Warning Boob Window May Be Offensive”

No Namor or Aquaman “doing” Nirvana’s “Nevermind”? Or would that have been too easy?

I think one of the suggestions on Twitter was that or something like that, Jason. But I guess it just didn’t float anyone’s boat enough for it to be their first choice.

Oh, God, I JUST realized what the stars are on the Zoo Crew piece. Well done, Yukinori!!!

Oh Crap! Just noticed the “stars” on the Zoo Crew cover! Maniacal Mystery Foe indeed.

Ha! sorry John apparently we had a moment of synchronicity.

Ha! sorry Daniel apparently we had a moment of synchronicity. :)

I do admit to swiping the facial expressions of the Zoo Crew… as I wanted them to look as much like Scott Shaw’s designs as possible. I thought I was being original on the poses though. Rest assured there was no tracing.

Xum

Woo– so much great stuff! Don’t think I wanna start listing faves as it would pretty much cover the lot.

Gotta ask though– how does Daniel Cox turn out such awesome work so quickly? I’m continually amazed with each piece.

Also — piece that made me laugh out loud this week was Tobin’s Thor– great stuff.

Album covers are some of the best known (and most impressive) pieces of modern at known to pop culture, so they get homage/parodied a lot. Let’s see what our TLIID artists can do with them!

Hellboy on Iron Maiden’s The Number of the Beast: this was a no-brainer. (Is that Hellboy’s Father? I don’t believe I’ve actually seen him.) The art is very much like that of the actual comic. Well done!

Beast Odelay: This one I don’t know (cue jokes on how Sijo doesn’t get American Pop references :p ) but I liked it, both because it was funny and because the art style reminds me of turn-of-the-century posters (as in the 1900s I mean.)

Captain Carrot, Pig Iron, Alley-Kat-Abra & Yankee Poodle on the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour album: I was expecting this one, just not with the Zoo Crew. Very well done, and I love the inclusion of Starro The Conqueror as the stars! :D

The original New Warriors on New Kids on the Block’s debut album: Hah! Love this one too; not only were the NW some of my favorite Marvel characters of the 90’s (and of course, Marvel had to go screw them up -_- ) but the style looks like something out of a DC Comics cartoon. It works!! ?

Captain Marvel and Bad Brains “Bad Brains”: …Umm, is it me, or does CM has whiskers? Or are those his cheekbones? Anyway while I can see what the joke is here, I don’t like it. Couldn’t he have SAVED the building from the bolt instead? Eh.

Element Woman and Herb Albert’s Tijana Brass “Whipped Cream & Other Delights.”: Another cover I’d never seen. Still, pretty clever homage to EW especially with the elements listed in the text. Too bad that she’s remembered these days only as “that super heroine whom The Sandman’s sister convinced to commit suicide”. -_-

Hopey from Love & Rockets on the Duran Duran RIO cover: As I’ve said before, I haven’t read Love & Rockets so I don’t know this character, but still, this was pretty funny. Also this Duran Duran cover is one of my favorites!

Zatanna on Alice Cooper’s Welcome to My Nightmare: another obvious one. But VERY well drawn! I only wish Dr. Light hadn’t been included but I guess its part of it being Zatanna’s personal nightmare.
Birds of Prey on Spice World: This one makes me laugh just on concept alone. I don’t think The Birds would be flattered to be compared to the Spice Girls! XD It was also very well drawn, even if I don’t recognize the girl in the “R”.

Harley Quinn on “Spike” by Elvis Costello”: The Joker or Two-Face might have fit this one better, but still, always good to see Harley! :D

Harley Quinn/She’s So Unusual (Cyndi Lauper): and here she’s again! Fits much better here. Especially liked the anti-Bat graffiti. LOL

Power Girl on Blink-182?s Enema of the State: wow, and I thought the original was both sexy and scary! XD Extra points for the Boob Window warning. Hah!

Elijah Snow and the White Album: Wow, I’m surprised this cover was used, what with its being so minimalistic. Also, since I haven’t seen Planetary I don’t get the joke. Is Snow capable of actually whitening things out? And is that a Hentai tentacle monster??

Power Girl on Janet Jackson’s Janet: While both of Mic’s versions were well drawn, I have to say I prefer the one with The Huntress justbecause it made me ROTFL when I saw it. Hah!

Thor on AC/DC’s High Voltage: Ehh, not a good fit, Thor looks stupid playing his hammer and his expression doesn’t help. Very well drawn though.

Hellboy and BPRD on AC/DC’s Highway to Hell: Yes, but can he do The Fandango? ;)

Batwoman on Alanis Morisette’s Jagged Little Pill: I still can’t see why people like Batwoman. She’s barely more than a female Batman. Still, loved the line work and the coloring here.

*Whew* We sure have a lot of artists om The Line this days! Makes it tiring to comment on everybody’s piece (but that’s only fair.) Its worth though because they are all great artists. Congratulations!

What an absolutely fantastic bunch of submissions! I particularly loved the Captain Carrot/Beatles parody, Zatanna on Alice Cooper (title reversal aside), both Power Girl covers (boob window!!), Thor on AC/DC and the Batwoman on Alanis Morisette — all great renditions of the original cover with a natural twist to the character, rather than trying to force the character in.

If this idea gets revisited, I’ve got some ideas I’d love someone to forward — including one of the two sentient planets (the one from Green Lantern and Marvel’s Ego) as Wings’ Venus And Mars. :D

Power-Girl all the way.

great work, guys!
so awesome. can this be a regular feature?

this also reminded of those awesome cliff chiang’s pieces from here: http://www.cliffchiang.com/category/remix/
which definitely needs a looks-ee if no one’s seen them before.

All really great work, but I was a little disappointed no one did Nirvana’s Nevermind cover with the Watcher.

Alanis / Batwoman is fantastic. The rest were a combination of the originals were not really iconic to me, or they were a little by the numbers.
