DC/Marvel Character Tourney – Westchester Region, Round 1

The first round of voting begins now!

Simply choose which character you like better (not who you think would win in a fight). Just choose whichever one is your favorite (whether it be that you think they’re more interesting, more appealing, whatever criteria you want to use) in each of the following eight match-ups. The voting concludes 48 hours from right now!

Enjoy!

I’m going with the “which character is more interesting to me” standard, so I’m hoping for an upset from Zatanna and the Silver Surfer.

I’m out. First bit is Spider-Man vs. Stephanie Brown? No. I can’t vote against Spidey but I think Steph worked her way out of hell to becoming interesting only to have DC pull the rug out from under her. And you pit her against SPIDER-MAN? Forget it, this was rigged.

Shouldn’t Magneto vs. Black Canary be here?

Thanks, Dave, looks like it I put Wonder Woman vs. Captain Marvel up twice by mistake. Fixed it!

Jean/Emma matchup is an interesting one. I have my preferences, but love them both, for real.

There is no subjectivity involved in the rankings. It was simply ranking them by their point totals and assigning them opponents based on the same system they use to do the brackets in the NCAA Tournament. So the top-ranked #1 seed is in the same region as the lowest ranked #2 seed, etc. Spider-Man, as the second-highest ranked #1 seed is matched up in the first round against the second-lowest ranked #16 seed, which is Batgirl. Batman got the lowest-ranked #16 seed (so #64 overall) in the first round, which was Batwoman.

Vote Black Canary in 2012!

We’ll see how many people still hold that torch for Jean Grey…blah.
Emma for the win.

I never understand exactly what this thing is or how it works, because I don’t follow sports. But the conversations it sparks always fun anyway, because it turns out that people have opinions about stuff. Who knew?

I have a strange sympathy/affection for the train-wreck of a post-Crisis history that Power Girl has endured. The cousin of Superman Earth-Two became the grand daughter of ancient Atlantis’s Arion…. then lots of ‘Who exactly is Power Girl” nonsense, as the comic reading public would never forget her true origin, and the new one was absurd (and how many of you now even remember Arion?). Throughout she was written well, as one of the strongest female characters in the DC Universe (especially in her ‘straight-man’ role against the silliness of Justice League Europe).
Then you have Kyle Raynor. The greatest Green Lantern ever. I can’t relate to a Chuck Yeager style hero, though I can understand when that would be the sorta character that little boys would want to relate to… but as the comic demographic shrank and matured, Kyle, a young graphics designer struggling to prove himself against the archetype of the Hal Jordan character… this I could relate to. Modern DC is stupid.
Since there is no ‘Draw’ vote, I’ll vote for Power Girl with that awesomely dynamic oval, showing off the most serious cleavage in the DCU.

I’m pretty much going by the first impulse when I see the names, but I admit I had to pause for Magneto vs Black Canary. Emma vs Jean is another pretty equal pair but as characters they are still easy to compare, but Magneto and Black Canary, they have little in common except that I enjoy both of them very much.

Jean Grey all the way!

This is fun, because I just do the clicky on whatever one appeals to me right at that second, but DAMN, there are some tough matchups in all of these things.

Good thing it’s just, y’know, for FUN.

Throwing Steph my love, as always, but she is pretty much boned in this match-up.

Tough match ups. Emma vs. Jean? Awesome.
