The Line it is Drawn #82 – March M.O.D.O.K. Madness!
Go follow Comics Should Be Good on Twitter (if you have Twitter, that is – if you don’t, you can go sign up). Here is our Twitter page… http://twitter.com/csbg. And here are the Comics Should Be Good writers who are on Twitter (the links go to the person’s Twitter account) – myself, Greg Hatcher, Chad Nevett, Kelly Thompson, Sonia Harris Danielle Leigh, Melinda Beasi, Michelle Smith, Bill Reed and Scott!
I update the blog’s Twitter account updates whenever a new post is put up on the blog, so it’s an easy way to keep up with the blog. In addition, I post new content on the blog’s Twitter account.
Now on to the bit!
So every week, I ask a question here. You reply to it on our Twitter page (just write @csbg with your reply) and our blog sketch artists will each pick one of your suggestions and I will post them here every week. So every week you will have a new question and you will see the choices picked from the previous week. Here is an archive of all the previous editions of The Line It Is Drawn!
To qualify, you have to be following us when you reply – so go follow us and then give your answer to the following question/challenge (All suggestions due by 6:00 AM Pacific, Friday, March 9th).
The topic is…
The theme this week is “What if…?” You come up with the description for an issue of What If…? (whatever company you’d like) and our artists will come up with what they think the end result of that What If…? would be.
Read on for the sketches that came about courtesy of the last question/challenge!
In honor of the annual March MODOK Madness (co-organized by our own Brendan Tobin), tweet us either a comic book character or a real life celebrity and tell us to “MODOK ‘em!”
Enjoy!
I’ll put them in alphabetical order based on the name of the Twitter user who made the suggestion.

If they ever did a “community” comic book, John Trumbell would be a natural

Heh, I chuckled at MODON in Nick Perks (Mental Organism Designed Only for NARF!)
MY fault, I should have suggested William Shatner.

Holy crap. Every one of these is awesome, and you used three of my suggestions! Mic, that is hilarious, and I love the Cheshire allusion, that is inspired.
Also, Yukinori, that looks like it could be an actual Silver Age issue, plot and all, it’s amazing! Great job everyone!!!

I know it wasn’t the centerpiece, but hey, give me credit for Pinky (of Pinky and the Brain) as MODOK. Unless Nick came up with it independently that is.

Mickey Mouse Modok makes waaaaay too much sense….and that scares me…

OK, first I have to ask: why MODOK? I mean, sure he’s slightly amusing, but its kind of a one-gag thing (he’s a giant flying head!) And kinda obscure. Or was that MODOK’s 11 miniseries THAT good? Should I check it out?
Anyway, here’s my comments:
Stewie Griffin as MODOK: Stewie is kind of like MODOK already, eg. A large-headed brainy villain. Not too inspired.
Mickey Mouse as MODOK: OK, I admit it, this one made me laugh. Extra points for the Steamboat Willie reference.
Steve Buscemi: Why Buscemi? I don’t get it. I liked Pinky as Modok though.
Modok GAGA: Another one that made me laugh. And VERY well drawn!
The cast of Community: I don’t watch Community so the joke is lost to me. But it gets points for including Arnim Zola.
Warhols’ 25 colored Marilyns as MODOK: shouldn’t they be all colored differently?
Marvel Zombies as MODOKs: My infinite hatred for Marvel Zombies prevents me from judging this one fairly.
Starfire: Just a quick chuckle because damn, that new take on Starfire as just interested on humans for sex deserves to be mocked every chance possible.
Charlie Sheen: Old joke by now. But neat Thundercats drink.
Wonder Woman: Perfect homage to the Silver Age Wonder Woman comic, congratulations!
The cast of Mad Men as Mad MODOK’s: again, I don’t watch Mad Men so no effect on me.
Super Mario Brothers: This has a… strange charm to it, I admit.
The cast of the Big Bang Theory: And again with the shows I don’t watch.
But hey, all were well drawn and at least slightly amusing, so nice week overall.
(The winner: Lady Gaga, with Wonder Woman a close second.)

Every time there’s a week where I think “I don’t really know what they can do with this theme to keep it interesting”, I am proven wrong. Awesome job, everyone!
And let me throw my hat into the praise-for-Yukinori ring. That Wonder Woman cover is so perfect!

YES – Credit to ecovore for the Pinky and the Brain cameo I threw in!!
Actually, rather than M.O.D.O.N I was thinking: “Observe ‘Brain’ I am now ‘Psionically Integrated Neuorological Killer, Yah!’” “Very nice, P.I,N.K.Y.”

Thanks Nick! And P.I.N.K.Y. – lol. I love Brain’s expression too.

Sijo: “Warhols’ 25 colored Marilyns as MODOK: shouldn’t they be all colored differently?”
Answer: No. They should not. “25 Colored Marilyns”, Andy Warhol, 1962.

I was afraid my suggestion of Bill Belichick got in too late — but I love what you all came up with — Community and Buscemi (why? Because he’s “funny-lookin’ guy”) with PatB are awesome, and Thea continues her march into the spot I had reserved for Caanan with her take on the REAL Marvel Zombies — after Disney gets them into the theme parks!

There’s a lot of leg-pulling “history” of comic books on that site as well.
