The Line it is Drawn #84 – Comic Book Dream Casting

Go follow Comics Should Be Good on Twitter (if you have Twitter, that is – if you don’t, you can go sign up). Here is our Twitter page… http://twitter.com/csbg. And here are the Comics Should Be Good writers who are on Twitter (the links go to the person’s Twitter account) – myself, Greg Hatcher, Chad Nevett, Kelly Thompson, Sonia Harris Danielle Leigh, Melinda Beasi, Michelle Smith, Bill Reed and Scott!

I update the blog’s Twitter account updates whenever a new post is put up on the blog, so it’s an easy way to keep up with the blog. In addition, I post new content on the blog’s Twitter account.

Now on to the bit!

So every week, I ask a question here. You reply to it on our Twitter page (just write @csbg with your reply) and our blog sketch artists will each pick one of your suggestions and I will post them here every week. So every week you will have a new question and you will see the choices picked from the previous week. Here is an archive of all the previous editions of The Line It Is Drawn!

To qualify, you have to be following us when you reply – so go follow us and then give your answer to the following question/challenge (All suggestions due by 6:00 AM Pacific, Friday, April 6th).

The topic is…

In honor of this week’s Avengers vs. X-Men, this week’s topic is just that, Avengers vs. X-Men…at anything BUT just outright brawling. Pick an Avenger then pick an X-Men and then pick something for them to compete it (chess, checkers, skiing, staring contest, arm wrestling, etc.)

Read on for the sketches that came about courtesy of the last question/challenge!

Dream casting! Pick a famous actor that you’d like to see portray a comic book character and our artists will draw said actor/actress as that character. What would a Clark Gable Superman look like? Or a Michael Caine John Constantine? Stuff like that

Enjoy!

I’ll put them in alphabetical order based on the name of the Twitter user who made the suggestion.

(Psssssssst….Nick Perks drew up a riff on the Shatner as GL bit, too, just not intended as being part of this feature. Just a practice piece, of sorts. Would you all like to see it? If enough of you want to see it, I’m sure Nick will be forced to let me show it you all.)

Great work, everyone! Okay, folks, go tweet us your suggestions!

Great drawings!
And Summer Glau is right, she’s broadening her acting range by guest starring in medical drama Grey’s Anatomy or filming a drama pilot fot TNT;
But the queen of sci-fi has not given up on the genre since she announced at recent Emerald City Comicon that she was going back to Alphas (Syfy).

Can’t wait to see Summer Glau as Skylar Adams in Alphas season 2!
Fansite Summer Glau Wiki says filming is this month for a release of new episodes in July 2012.

I really love Nick Perks’ take on Orson Wells. He really nailed each character.

I don’t normally care for posters, but I’d love to have Break In At Tiffany’s grace my wall.

I agree with AS. That poster is awesome.

Daniel Cox’s Bill Murray as a Guardian nailed it! Great illustration and he made a reference to Ghostbusters! Honorable mention to Marco’s Step Brothers gag.

Of *course* we want to see Nick’s Shatner GL.

Walko nails it once again. And John Trumbull, while I love his TLIID, should really be doing his own comic, I would totally buy it.

And I second the Nick Perks GL!

@Michael P – Ehhh… Now I’ve seen Xum’s version mine seems even more puny.
I especially like the dialogue: the… dramatic pauses…which are… so Shatner… it’s.. perfect…

No… way, NICK! We… have to see… your… Shatner! (Even if my post sounds more like Kevin Pollak…)

Somehow, Ganthet in hotel slippers in Tokyo just makes sense… the Guardians have been dense ever since Denny O’Neil called them out 40 years ago!

But that Trumbull Green Arrow — THAT’S a reboot I could buy! Ollie actually being the swashbuckler he’s always seen himself as being; he’d be in like Flynn at last…

Mic? obviously knows the source material of Shang-Chi — all we need is Warren Ellis to write the book, and we have a Marvel comic actually worth buying again!

As wonderful as the Batman casting is, what makes the piece perfect is the Welles quote at the bottom — and can you imagine John Houseman — also part of the Mercury Players — as Alfred? Millar’s hoaxes are better than most of his comics!

@BeccaBlast – Credit… where it is… due. The Welles’ quote… was taken…verbatim from the… spoof article written… by Millar… It was a…. …. …. great hoax, and a… great quote.

1. Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, please! He’s voiced the character and even dressed as him.

2. Adam Baldwin as Captain America. In my opinion, the greatest Cappy we haven’t had…yet.

3. Gina Torres or Christina Hendricks as Wonderwoman

4. Alan Tudyk as the Compleat Traveller in Black

5. Lucy Lawless as Catwoman

Great… Guardians! What… have I… unleashed?!!

Xum

Those are too cool! The Orson Welles one is great, and probably would have been a great movie as well. The Shatner Green Lantern is hilarious, and yes, by all means, let’s see Nick’s Shatner!

Great job, everyone!

SHOW US YOUR SHATNER PIECE, NICK!!! You can never have enough Shatner!

This is going to be a such… an anti-climax…

GEORGE RAFT!

YEAH! SHOW US THE SHATNER NICK!

AAARGH – I have to stop the tension! http://www.sketchpad.org.uk/comic%20stuff/sketches/kirk-gl1.jpg
I hope no one was coming back for that specially! As you will see, it isn’t just about Shatner….
Brian, feel free to delete this post if you want to handle it differently.

Looks great, NickP, I like the new choice for Green Lantern, but I thought I told you the satanic-looking guy with the ears had to go!

Ferrel/Reilly as Thor/Loki is so wrong it’s right.

Wonderful.

I should have suggested Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury. :-)

Nick, thanks for your drawing. It looks more like Shatner than Xum’s, although i totally laughed at Xum’s piece too!

My fave was Mic’s, as it was dead on brilliant. Great job to all!

Does everyone yelling at Nick to “show his Shatner” sound perverted to anyone else, or just me?

Can’t wait to see Mickey Rooney as Egg-Fu in Break in at Tiffany’s.

Ohh, this week’s topic has a lot of potential- for good And ill! Let’s see…

Audrey Hepburn as Catwoman: Oh yeah! I always wondered if I was the only one who got this idea! And Walko’s art is perfect for the classic Hepburn movie poster! :)

Clint Eastwood as Roland Deschain from Stephen King’s Dark Tower series: OK, I have no idea who this character is. But nice rendition of Clint.

Make Mark Millar’s hoax a reality, Orson Welles as Batman: despite coming from Millar, this is actually an intriguing idea. I’m not 100% happy with the castings, but still, nice job.

Summer Glau as X-23: Don’t know the actress; I guess she plays a similar character somewhere? Whatever, I like the art.

Bruce Lee as Shang Chi: This is a natural one, as is Mic to draw it.

Bill Murray as a Guardian of Oa: I don’t get these ones. What do Murray and the Guardians have in common? At least the Guardians I remember, they have been disrespected a lot in recent years.

Bruce Willis as Dark Knight Returns Batman with Chloë Moretz as Robin: Ok, this made me giggle. But you know, it might work.

Errol Flynn as Green Arrow: another natural one. Love the old-style poster art.

Will Ferrell as Thor: HATE this movie (Stepbrothers, not Thor) so no.

William Shatner as Green Lantern: another one that made me giggle. Thanks.

Overall, VERY good week on the art side, and I liked most of the choices. My favorite is definitely Hepburn as Catwoman. ?

William Shatner as Green Lantern – – EPIC!

Thanks. Do you mean Money Supermarket EPIC or Epic Win game show EPIC?

Xum

Great work by all involved, always exciting as well when a couple of my suggestions are used. Axel’s Clint as Roland picture is my new desktop. Nick blew it out of the Park on the Welles as Batman poster, major props for going back to all of Millar’s casting from his hoax article and putting them all in the poster.

“Bruce Lee as Shang Chi”? Anyone ever read Paul Gulacy’s run on “Master of Kung Fu”? Bruce Lee was who Gulacy based his Shang Chi on.

Great work all around. I especially love Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly as Thor and Loki. I’d kill to see hat come true even as just a Funny or Die video.

I vote for Clint Eastwood (from Heartbreak Ridge) as Batman from Frank Millers The Dark Knight.

He could really carry off the role of a middle aged, broken, but unbowed Batman.

I keep thinking that George Cloney would be a great Dr. Strange

Bruce Campbell as Nick Fury. If they hadn’t gone Ultimate Nick for the movie, he’d be the only choice.
