My New Book Is Out!
My new book, Why Does Batman Carry Shark Repellent? (the answer, of course, is so he can repel sharks…and other dangerous sea creatures) is out today!
The book contains a series of lists about comic books. Some examples include the three topics depicted on the cover (which was drawn by Kevin Hopgood, the fellow who designed War Machine’s armor)…
Seven Bands That Got Their Names from Comic Books
Six Fellow Superheroes That Wolverine Has Stabbed at One Point or Another
Ten Crazy Items Found in Batman’s Utility Belt
Essentially, it is all the sort of stuff you expect from this here blog, only in book form! Roughly 75% of it is brand-new material!
In addition, there are twenty-two guest lists by a whole bunch of great comic creators. Some examples include the three creators mentioned on the cover….
Mark Millar’s “Five ‘WTF?’ Moments in Comic Book History?”
Dave Gibbons’ “Six Great Silver Age Covers”
Geoff Johns’ “Nine Iconic Green Lantern Covers”
The other creators who contributed lists are (in alphabetical order): Jason Aaron, Scott Allie, Paige Braddock, Peter David, J.M. DeMatteis, Mike Deodato, Jay Faerber, Kieron Gillen, Gabriel Hardman, Frazer Irving, Jeff Lemire, Greg Pak, Jimmy Palmiotti, John Rozum, Marc Sumerak, Eric Trautmann, Fred Van Lente, Mark Waid, Zeb Wells and Skottie Young.
Order a copy today at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Books-A-Million, Powell’s Books and many more fine online bookstores (or buy it in whichever brick and mortar store you enjoy)!
If you buy it from Amazon, I get a cut, but really, buy it from wherever you’d like! A sale is a sale!
The important thing is buying it.

There must be a real science to drawing a character, having everyone knowing it is that character, but include enough differences so that legally its not that character. It’s more than a pastiche, because the last umpteen times I saw that cover, I SAW Wonder Woman and Batman, but today all I can see are the differences.

I don’t believe so, but if you get to Amazon.uk from Amazon.us, then maybe.

I received “Was Superman A Spy?” last week, and finished it on Friday. Great read, as engaging and well researched as any of your columns. Flipping through “Why Does Batman Carry Shark Repellent?”: It seems like a read that will prove more fun. Great Job & thanks for occupying my time so entertainingly.

Hey Brian,
Do we need to use the links here for you to get the cut? If so can you link the Kindle edition as well.

So long as you buy it from Amazon after using the above link, anything you purchase on Amazon during that session is given the cut. So if you ever feel like buying a big ticket item from Amazon, if you use that link to get to Amazon, everything you purchase while on the site gives me a cut.

Can I buy it in a real store? I’m a bit of a dinosaur (despite being 26) and am going to Barnes and Noble on Monday anyway. I COULD order it online, I suppose, just to thank you for all the years of stellar (and free!) content you’ve given me, but like I said: Dinosaur. Don’t wanna.

Sure, Charlie, of course you can buy it in a real store. Heck, I sold a bunch in a real store on Wednesday night at my signing!
I presume Barnes and Noble will have them. They carried the last book. You could do a search online to see if your local Barnes and Noble has a copy before you go, or just check when you get there.

I just bought a copy of the Kindle version via the link you posted above. Now I’ll have something to read during my Managerial Finance classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursday. Thank you for that.
