The Great Comic Book Cover Homage Streak: Week 1
It occurs to me that it seems like many comic book covers are homages. Which is fine with me. I have no problem with it. It just made me think, though, how long could I go before I hit a week where NO new comic book was released that had a cover that was an homage to something (if I get that far, I’ll discount the “skip week” Diamond Comics will be having between Christmas and New Years this year)? Let’s find out! Here is an archive of all the cover homages featured in the streak so far!
Week 1 had a few to choose from, I’ll go with Amazing Spider-Man #694′s homage to the first Superman/Spider-Man meet-up…

This seems like a fun idea for a reoccurring bit. Any chance of getting a list of some of the other homage covers this week?

And the original cover as well.
You know, so I don’t have to do ANY heavy lifting at all…

Ha! I might post the original if the homage is in doubt (like if it is not CLEAR that it is intended as an homage), but otherwise, this is what you’ll get each week until the streak ends. Which could be as soon as next week (Hint: It won’t be next week)!

It seems like the only realistic chance for the streak to stop is for both DC and Marvel to simultaneously have a given month for covers. And then you still have alt covers and non-Big 2 comics to choose from.

Perhaps so, Thok, we shall see!

It’d be interesting to go back in time for the last few months and see how long this streak has gone in the other direction, too.

I also thought it was fun how the “One Month of Alpha!” up in the corner is ‘homaging’ Marvel’s “50 years of Spider-Man!” and other anniversary celebrations of that type.

As soon as the streak ends, I’ll do exactly that (go backwards).

I think it’d help if you threw up an image of the first superman/spider-man meet-up.

Sorry, you’re just going to have to trust me when I say a book is clearly an homage. Like I mentioned before, though, if it is close and unclear if an homage was actually intended, I’ll throw the original up there for comparison’s sake. Just not the obvious stuff.

Google superman spider-man. First result is itself an homage/recreation. I agree it’d be nice to have posted here, but if Brian says he’s not going to do it, spend the two seconds it takes to do the legwork yourself. sheesh.

I’m always amazed that I can’t find a website dedicated to this. Or one for swipes.

What if a cover has more than one homage? I’ve seen dozens of versions of Amazing Fantasy #15 with other characters thrown in. And does remakes count? (The Spiderman/Superman original cover that this one homages was once redone by Alex Ross didn’t it?) And does comic book covers homaging other forms of media count? I can remember a Hulk cover that did it with the poster from the movie Pulp Fiction.
Featuring these would be cool.

Trust us when we say that Brian will have a lot of homages to deal with, and I will be amazed if the streak is broken before the end of the year.
If it is, I might just send buttler that 10 bucks.
(Note: this is not a binding legal agreement.)

Fun idea for a feature! I, too, will be shocked if the streak doesn’t go for at least a few months.

I think Ramos DID “throw up” an image of it, amirite? Huh? Huh?
Yeah, I amuse MYSELF at least. Sorta.
