The Great Comic Book Cover Homage Streak: Week 2

It occurs to me that it seems like many comic book covers are homages. Which is fine with me. I have no problem with it. It just made me think, though, how long could I go before I hit a week where NO new comic book was released that had a cover that was an homage to something (if I get that far, I’ll discount the “skip week” Diamond Comics will be having between Christmas and New Years this year)? Let’s find out! Here is an archive of all the cover homages featured in the streak so far!

This week, we’ll go with Avengers Academy #38 by Giuseppe Camuncoli and Jim Charalampidis, homaging Dave Cockrum’s X-Men #100…

Two weeks down! Will we make it to week three?

Man, X-Men is a pain in the ass to look up on GCD. Then I saw the cover and remembered it.

It will be interesting to see a non-Marvel cover here at some point…

I sincerely feel that since many of your younger readers have never seen the covers being paid tribute to, you really should show the original covers of those books. I am sure that I am not alone thinking this.

You should really include the cover that’s the subject of the homage, as well – eventually, you’re sure to get to one that isn’t as universally recognized as they have been so far…

And if/when we get to that point, I’ll show the original. So long as we’re in universally recognized territory, I won’t.

Frankly, I find it fun to guess what cover is being homaged, and there’s always the comments section if I can’t figure it out on my own.

I sincerely feel that because I would like ten dollars, you should send me ten dollars.

I didn’t know about that Champions cover that also uses the same setup. Thanks, Jazzbo.

But…but…what if I’m lazy?? It’s hard to look up covers!

Jazzbo ftw

Actually, Mike’s comment brings up an interesting point: there are covers that also homaged the original, so how do we know which one this one is actually homaging? Huh? Huh?

So we need ALL possible covers for it!!!

And Jazzbo needs to do that type-y bit for me so I just have to click stuff.

Oh, and next time, can my thoughts just be read out of my head so I don’t have to type them? My fingers are getting slightly sore!!!

But I had to scroll down to look at all the results! WAH!!!

can’t help but feel this would have been better if Wolverine’s side where on the left and Giant-man’s on the right, only so Wolverine could pull exactly the same pose Cyclops did. Given current events, that’d add something.

I know we’re making fun of the over-use of homage covers in this feature, but this one made me laugh.
