i love Buffy’s t-shirt in the Vampirella one.

Anyone else find it odd that Oz (the only rock musician in the group) is not in the battle of the bands picture?

Is that a Sonic Disruptors reference in the Battle Of The Bands pic?!

Into each Line it is Drawn is born — some really awesome work!

I know that Lorne wasn’t the demon that caused Once More With Feeling, but he was such a memorable character, it seemed a shame to leave him out of this musical — and JT found the perfect lyric to wrap up the basket full of Easter eggs — well done, sir.

Steve Howard gets the dialogue right — and the little Bat-slogan on the shirt is priceless. Not sure if the Willow-snark is in character, but it was too hard to pass up.

OK — three weeks, three great drawings by new guy Paul — talk about a Potential!

I’m not sure there was room for Oz — the Axe needs all that space. Thea nails the Adventure Time look, Andrea does a great job with the colors — and of course TimmBat and Deadpool would be in the audience! A very fun collaboration.

You’d think Constantine would know where he could get a hold of a couple of kittens to avoid the brawl, but nooooooooo, as usual John has to sit back and gripe. These two are a pair only D’Hoffryn could love.

Nice work as always by Nick — and remembering that Cyclops uses solar energy. At least some of the time — I have to go re-check Abandoned ‘n’ Forsaked to see if that’s still true.

I forget why I suggested a Looker/Buffy mash-up a few weeks back, for a different TLiiD, but Walko makes it work — and using her Dracula put-downs on Morbius is perfect! Why DID Morbius have such a weird get -up anyway? Don’t most vampires have better fashion sense?

Oh, Axel, Axel, Axel, Axel… I simply cannot accept the “English isn’t my first language” argument any more – -not if you are going to write the humor that well. This may also be the most fun Wanda has been in about, um, the last three decades? And Willow was just priceless. Thanks for a great piece that plays with the stereotypes and smacks them around a little too.

Does so many missing artists mean that we might have a few stragglers this week?

Becca, you made my day… and great work, everyone!

Having Axel’s work at the end was the greatest way this entry could have ended. Solid gold joke right there.

These are too good! I can’t pick a favorite.

Why DID Morbius have such a weird get -up anyway? Don’t most vampires have better fashion sense?

It was the 70s. NO ONE had a good fashion sense. I think every male character introduced during that decade was required to have a shirt open to their navel (Morbius, Power Man, Iron Fist, the Falcon, Black Lightning… SAY! I bet there’s a cartoon in this!)

Wow, sorry for hogging the new guy! (Three weeks in a row, woo)
Oh and John if you do make a cartoon of terrible fashions, please don’t forget Brother Voodoo.

(Im not some Anonymous fool :O

Walko gets bonus points for actually using dialogue from the show.

Steve Howard = Beautiful

Ah, the Great 1970s Button Shortage, i remember it well… :)

Eyebeams O’Death :-D

Ahhhh, if the “comics with webcomics” topic ever comes up again I’m going to have to remember to suggest Cyclops & Dave of CRFH!!! team up.

Missed the Joke

October 19, 2012 at 4:45 am

I think I missed the batman on t-shirt joke, “should it be style over substance?”, what dose that mean?

So, Buffy and Comics… two of my favorite things EVER! :D

@John Trumbull: I love the “Batman: The Brave And The Bold” vibe you gave this one. And the suit joke is perfect! Next request: “I Got The Mustard Out”!

@Steve: Darn, I wanted to do this one, so ended up using DC’s Looker instead. LOVE the rendering and the likenesses! REALLY stunning piece! I can’t help but add to Willow’s dialogue, “Vampirella? So what’s HER deal…?”

@Paul: What a great team-up idea, and I love how your Hit Girl and Buffy are ready to kick major ass!

@Marco & Thea: You had me at “teenagers in bands” — Love the battle of the bands vibe of this, and love how you two collab’ed. I’d definitely see these guys at The Bronze, pitted against Dingo Ate My Baby of course.

@Sean: The Constantine/Spike team-up is a hilarious conceit and you put it together nicely! Very funny! These guys need to bond over a “Passions” marathon!

@Nick Perks: An expected joke in this Summers team-up but nicely done! I almost wanted to do this one with a “Summer Blood” nod with Mister Sinister and Glory (Fifth season finale anyone?)

@Axel: OMG< I think this is my fav of the week. It looks fantastic and it's hilarious. The body language is also superb!

Great job, Liners! You (dare I say) SLAYED it!

@Nick, I meant to say “an unexpected joke”! Argh! That came of as a snipe and it was meant as a compliment!

“Steve Howard gets the dialogue right — and the little Bat-slogan on the shirt is priceless. Not sure if the Willow-snark is in character, but it was too hard to pass up.”

Unfortunately, it is. Once Buffy moved to UPN, Willow’s coming-out was not treated with any degree of subtlety, as though the lack of censorship was license for the writers to make her remind audiences every five minutes that she did, indeed, like girls. The only thing worse than their facile treatment of Willow’s sexuality was their treatment of her magic use, and both went hand in hand to create a very reduced version of the character.

[…] Crossover on the Hellmouth!!! – Comic Book Characters and Buffy The Vampire Slayer Characters Mash-up!!! […]

Oh, and I didn’t mean that as an indictment of Steve Howard; his piece was lovely, and as always, everyone here did a really good job.

Sorry I couldn’t join in these week crew, but stirling effort!

John: Lovely colours and nice use of the B&B style!
Stve: Hehe…and wow, look at the rendering on that sucker. Looks great and big effort!
Paul: Way cute…like the stylised lines you used. Those zombies are gonna get an ass-kicking!
Thea/Marco: Great idea with the team-up! Looks great too. Love the Adventure Time crowd..haw-haw.
Sean: Groovy! It took me a little while to figure out what was happening to Constantine, but it looks great.
Nick: Cool — have always wanted to see Cyclops blow the guts out of a zombie. I like the way they’re looking at each other!
Bill: These are great…MUCH prefer the more organic drawn look to these than the vector stuff. Second one made me chuckle:)
Axel: That’s alot of bubbles, but it paid off in the end. Nice boobies on Scarlet.
Cox: What the hell happened? You lose yours on the bus, again?

I like ‘em all, as usual (and let me be that guy — no Angel?). Great stuff, everyone.

I’d especially like to say that Steve Howard should be tapped by Dark Horse as Season 10 artist, and Trumbull and Walko should trade off issues/arcs of the Animated Series comic.

And thanks to Brian for next week’s theme. I’ve got an old Comics Interview with Marc Swayze in it, and he sounded like a good guy. Beautiful Mary Marvel, as well (as co-creator, I guess he should be good at it).

Spike doesn’t look like Spike to me in that Constantine one.

Thanks so much for doing this special visual treat for the fans – LOVE all of them. Especially wonderful to see a tribute to Lorne and Andy Hallett. Lorne was one of fav characters of all the Jossverse and he is always included in my Dia de Los Muertos altar. Hope that his parents get a notice over at their Facebook page.

Thanks Again -
