The Great Comic Book Cover Homage Streak: Week 9
It occurs to me that it seems like many comic book covers are homages. Which is fine with me. I have no problem with it. It just made me think, though, how long could I go before I hit a week where NO new comic book was released that had a cover that was an homage to something (if I get that far, I’ll discount the “skip week” Diamond Comics will be having between Christmas and New Years this year)? Let’s find out! Here is an archive of all the cover homages featured in the streak so far!
This week, I’m going with Todd McFarlane’s cover for Spawn #225, which is homaging Dave Gibbons’ classic Watchmen #1 cover. McFarlane did two different issues (and covers), with each one being won by a different candidate for the U.S. presidency. I chose the first one that popped up when I did an image search for Spawn #225.

Nine weeks down! Will we make it to week ten?

But that Obama cover came out this week and Spawn #226 isn’t coming out next week.

I thought of this Homage Streak as soon as I saw that cover.

Yeah, McFarlane has been doing homage covers for awhile now. I try to avoid using them for the Streak (a little too easy, ya know?), but this one was interesting enough that I figure I should use it.

Oh yeah, definitely. McFarlane’s personal homage streak is certainly a boon to the Great Comic Book Cover Homage Streak!
