The Greatest Christmas Stories Ever Told! – #17
The countdown continues with 2006’s “Yes, Tyrone, There Is a Santa Claus” from Infinite Holiday Special #1 by Kelley Puckett and Pete Woods…
This modern Christmas classic opens in a familiar fashion…

So Superman decides to make Tyrone’s day by dressing up in a special Santa Claus Superman suit (“The S is for Santa”)…

Superman has second thoughts, though, and figures he should at the very least give Tyrone some presents. But when he gets there, he discovers…

Kelley Puckett is a GENIUS.
And this all leads to one of the greatest splash pages of ALL-TIME!!!

I love the “twist” that it is an Elseworlds tale. SO FUNNY!
And Pete Woods, holy crap, how amazing is Pete Woods? Pete Woods should draw every superhero comic ever.

Superman punching out Batman is too funny for words.
And partially agreed on Pete Woods. One of the best pencilers working on the Superman books, or arguably any DC title, around that time.

There’s another excellent Superman Elseworlds Christmas short story called “The Man in Red” where Clark grows up to become Santa Claus instead of Superman. Sadly it’s super (no pun intended) obscure, so it has basically no chance of making this list, especially not ahead of a much more well known (and honestly better) story like this one.

I love the panel where Batman apologizes for getting so morose. Superman’s all, “Yes, I get it, your parents are dead.”

Superman’s facial expressions!
Batman (possibly Adam West?) being a good guy and a jerk at practically the same time!
Superman undoing his ‘boy scout’ reputation by punching BatSanta in the face in front of witnesses!
(And the Elseworlds was a great touch.)
Holy St. BatNick,
Every panel was Pure Awesomeness!

Nice to see Superman punching out Batman for a change. Not so tough without your kryptonite, eh Bats?

Man it’s even better than Kingdom Come, Gotham by Gaslight, Dark Knight Returns, Red Rain, Generations, Red Son. Honestly I think it’s THE GREATEST ELSEWORLD STORY EVER!!!!!!!!!
