The Great Comic Book Cover Homage Streak: Week 12

It occurs to me that it seems like many comic book covers are homages. Which is fine with me. I have no problem with it. It just made me think, though, how long could I go before I hit a week where NO new comic book was released that had a cover that was an homage to something (if I get that far, I’ll discount the “skip week” Diamond Comics will be having between Christmas and New Years this year)? Let’s find out! Here is an archive of all the cover homages featured in the streak so far!

Sorry for the delay on this week’s homage! I usually do these on Wednesdays, but this past Wednesday I was busy with the 12 most notable #12′s (since it was 12/12/12 last Wednesday). Anyhow, this week, with our first non-comics homage, we’ll go with Joe Quinones’ cover to Dark Avengers #184, referencing the famous Joe Rosenthal photograph, “Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima.”

Twelve weeks down! Will we make it to week thirteen?

“First non-comics homage”? Did you have one that was an homage to the movie poster for The Usual Suspects?

Ooo, good catch, Rob. That’s very true.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Usual Suspects cover! Thanks for the head’s up!

I like to amuse myself by looking at the racks each week and attempting to guess which cover you’re going to pick. I’m almost never right. This week I thought it was going to be “Fanboys vs. Zombies” #9, with its “Back to the Future 3″ homage.

So I’m guessing JLA #1 won’t make an appearance on this feature as it homages the same image?

Depends on what other options there are that week, Stephen !

Clearly JLA is actually homaging Dark Avengers.
