The Line it is Drawn #121 – Lesser Known Marvel NOW! Titles

Go follow Comics Should Be Good on Twitter (if you have Twitter, that is – if you don’t, you can go sign up). Here is our Twitter page… http://twitter.com/csbg. And here are the Comics Should Be Good writers who are on Twitter (the links go to the person’s Twitter account) – myself, Greg Hatcher, Chad Nevett, Kelly Thompson, Bill Reed, Sonia Harris, Melissa K. and Ken H.

I update the blog’s Twitter account updates whenever a new post is put up on the blog, so it’s an easy way to keep up with the blog. In addition, I post new content on the blog’s Twitter account.

Now on to the bit!

So every week, I ask a question here. You reply to it on our Twitter page (just write @csbg with your reply) and our blog sketch artists will each pick one of your suggestions and I will post them here every week. So every week you will have a new question and you will see the choices picked from the previous week. Here is an archive of all the previous editions of The Line It Is Drawn!

To qualify, you have to be following us when you reply – so go follow us and then give your answer to the following question/challenge (All suggestions due by 9:00 AM Pacific on Friday).

The topic is…

To celebrate Stan Lee’s recent 90th birthday, name a memorable moment from a Stan Lee-written comic book and our artists will provide their interpretation of the scene. Spidey catching the burglar? The Fantastic Four meeting Galactus? There are plenty of legendary moments to go around!

Read on for the sketches that came about courtesy of the last question/challenge!

As the new year begins, I think of fresh starts, like perhaps a brand-new #1! So suggest lesser-known Marvel characters that you’d like to see be given the Marvel Now treatment and our artists will work up a cover of their first issue.

I’ll put them in alphabetical order based on the name of the Twitter user who made the suggestion.

Awesome work, everyone!

Now everybody go share your suggestions for next week!

Bravo, Phillip Sevy! I actually burst out laughing when I saw that one. Nicely done.

Awesome job by everyone… although, is it just me, or does ROM’s Neutralizer look like a Nintendo Zapper? (And yes, the character needs to make a reappearance!)

Chaz, i’d buy any DeathHead book you draw

Axel, John, nick & al real great

But sean’s Batroc has a little something ..
being french, i could feel offensed , look at that smile sean drew . and imagine that batroc is representing france……gonna hang myself, but cant stop ROFL !!

I want to read the Dazzlers!!! hahaha!!

Those are all excellent.

Major props to all my fellow artists, but, man, Steve, I want to read your Cloak and Dagger series SO bad. That is one gorgeous piece of work (and hilariously fitting byline).

I remember reading Planet Terry as a kid and thinking ‘You know what’s missing? Robot nipples.’
Stellar work as always this week.
Just a tiny bit disappointed that my suggested take and Squadron Supreme wasnt used… but Johnny T rocks it out.

Great work, everyone! This is my first The Line it is Drawn column and I’ll be sure to check back in!

I want to read The Dazzlers ASAP!!!!

I am never not impressed by this feature.

I would totally pick up those Beta Ray Bill and Dazzler books, but the big winner for me is Trumbull’s Squadron Supreme, just for the JLI reference (well, that and because it looks like it would be all kinds of win lol)

Ah man, that Cloak and Dagger cover is epic! Wish that could be real, but that byline is prophetic…

I’d so buy the Dazzler, Hercules & Beta Ray Bill books!

A Stan Lee written moment I would like to depicted is the moment when the members of the Fantastic Four get their powers!
ArchAngel getting his own series might work.

I don’t know too much about Beta Ray Bill, so what’s up with that spider-horse?

I know this is crazy but I would buy Planet Terry! That looks really cool. And the Cloak and Dagger is stunning!!! Some of these concepts could actually work!

I just want to enter the contests, does The Line just have a Facebook page to notify of the next contest?

Dazzlers is brilliant! Marvel needs to get on that, stat!

Foogos: The spider-horse is actually Sleipnir, Odin’s steed in Norse mythology. Bill’s just borrowing him.

Brian, you always make me smile with the grand descriptions you give me :)

I have a terrible memory but I think that many-legged horse is Sleipnir. It’s Odin’s horse and is supposed to be really fast ‘cuz it has a bunch of legs. I hope.

Who’s that orange dude in the New Warriors one?

Alpha Flight
Black Panther
Fantastic Four (Ghost Rider, Wolverine, Hulk, Spider-Man)
Ghost Rider
Guardians of the Galaxy (original team)
Howard the Duck
Machine Man
Moon Knight
New Mutants
New X-Men
Nexwave Agents of H.A.T.E.
Omega Flight
She-Hulk (Jennifer Walters)
Silver Surfer
Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew)
Spider-Woman/Arachne (Julia Carpenter)
War Machine
West Coast Avengers

Sevy, amazing, got a huge laugh from me.

Oh, love this set, some really great pieces in here.

I’ll take that Squadron, Cloak & Dagger, Rom, Human Fly, and Bloodstone series please! Love them all strong!!!

I would buy so many of these. So many more Marvel titles I would buy than I do at the moment.

The Beta Ray Bill cover is cool :)

Love the appearance of Doop in Hurcules. That book could happen!

Those are all pretty brilliant.

Foogos: that’s Sleipnir, Odin’s warhorse and, er, Loki’s spawn according to the Prose Edda. (Loki’s get are kinda weird a lot of the time.)

Thanks everyone for the horse answer!

Thea impresses me yet again! She even got BRB’s teeth right–a lot of artists draw him with a full mouth of horse’s teeth, when he just has the front “buck” teeth.

Someone show that to Kathryn Immonen so that BRB can make his way into Journey Into Mystery.

Squadron Supreme! I really like this piece, John–especially the Nighthawk revamp! Bill Walko always hits it out of the park, and Cynthia really did a nice Beta Ray on horseback–an Asgardian steed, masterfully drawn! Steve Howard used contrast and design extremely well this week, and Nick went the extra mile. Love the Red Skull pulp cover!

So many good things this week! It’s really great having you all posting your artworks again. Looking forward to seeing the next TLIID installment!

Wow. So much good! Love the Herc and Beta Ray covers, I’d buy the heck out of those based on what I see here. But Cloak and Daggers just snatches my first place – stunning stuff.

I’m surprised there was no Marvel Now! Micronauts.

First of all…..Congrads to Mic? for producing another winner piece of artwork with the New Warriors (and for those that’re wondering…..The Team Members are Firestar, Justice, Silhouette, {Presumably the New} Nova, Speedball, Power Man (orange guy) & the New White Tiger (Ava Ayala). Also, great work with Cloak & Dagger, plus the Planet Terry one. Such a shame that there wasn’t a MARVEL NOW! Version for Power Pack

I just want to enter the contests, does The Line just have a Facebook page to notify of the next contest?

It is not a contest. These are the regular artists on the feature.

UATU The Watcher! That sounds good. Like some anthology of short stories narrated by Uatu. I would read it.

Beta Ray Bill is one of my favorite characters, and that;s an amazing Beta Ray Bill cover, so it’s pretty easily my top pick of the bunch. I think the Blonde Phantom cover might be the most effective. Having almost no knowledge or interest in the character I’d still buy the issue based off of that cover.

I would read that New Warriors title….

Hmm, so many iconic Stan Lee moments I want to see covered by the gang here- Death of Uncle Ben, Avengers taking on Loki, FF exposed to cosmic rays, Professor X forming the X-Men, Spider-Man holding up the collapsing machinery in “The Master Planner Saga” and Mary Jane Watson’s sensational “Face it, Tiger!” debut are all classics which should definitely be asked and chosen.

seriously… ROOOOOMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Phobos God of Fear

Whoopsie…!! Forgot to mention Namorita.

“Also featuring The Hood!”

I’d read a new Human Fly series.

Roquefort Raider

January 11, 2013 at 6:42 am

Philip Sevy hits the nail on the head (especially with the Hood cameo)!

I’d say half of these titles look more interesting that the actual Marvel NOW! books. Is it Marvel that lacks creativity, or its readers that have a ton of it?

The hilarity of Beta Ray Bill (a guy with a horse face), riding a horse……must now clean coffee off desk.

Beta ray Bill definately needs an ongoing.
And I would read all of these. Great work!

Mephron: Isn’t Loki actually Sleipnir’s MOTHER???

Loki: “Hold, fellow Asgardians. I’ll distract this mighty horse so you can slip past, by becoming a she-horse in estrus!”

(5 minutes later)

“Perhaps I should have thought this through….. anyone got any saddle soap?”

“What do you mean, I’m PREGNANT!?!?!?”

A proper ‘Adam Warlock’ series would be nice…also, ‘Damian Hellstorm’….hmmmmm, maybe Warlock, Hellstorm, and Voodoo could all be resurrected as the Mystic Avengers or something.

So disappointed BRB’s horse doesn’t have the face of a skeletal human.

Wow, is Mic psychic? That’s just kind of neat.

LOVED the entries this week guys, you all did awesome work.

Steve, welcome back dude! I adored the piece. I dare say that your resting and recuperating hand has only improved already great work from you. Axel, loved your piece this week, so dark! Paul, great force on the line work, that is very dynamic. Nick…. Are you trying to make us look bad, dude? 4 pieces…Now I feel as slow as molasses. Lol

Lots of space motifs this week. We should really have a space week. Thanks everyone who liked my beta ray bill! I had to fight for that one. Good start to what will be an awesome year for the Line. Happy new year, folks!

I would buy John Trumbull’s Squadron Supreme! Very cool!

LOVE Blonde Phantom!

Cloak and Dagger–like how the colors are reversed.

Man, as good as some of the Marvel NOW! have been, these look even cooler. I want that Blonde Phantom (in all senses!).

Great job everyone! Marvel should be looking to this feature to take advantage of their IPs!

Sevy’s was the funniest. However, Rodgers wins the week. Her cover looks like something that Marvel would actually put out and that I might actually consider picking up based on it.

Deaths Head all the way!!

It’s been said, but the “Cloak and Dagger” piece is museum-worthy. They’re also two of my favorite characters. Seriously, I think I was one of about four people who bought their recent one-shot.

Speaking of “museum-worthy”, do any of you liners sell prints? That piece is the latest in a long line of TLIID pieces I would pay money to hang on my wall.

[…] Serien würde ich echt gern lesen: The Line it is Drawn #121 – Lesser Known Marvel NOW! Titles goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2013/01/10/the… via […]

Marvel cannot do another “ROM, Spaceknight” comic because the copyright is still being held by Parker Brothers. The wiki entry is here;

BookWyrm, it’s all in fun. Don’t be a buzzkill ;p

Such a strong team as the Squadron Supreme, emulating the Giffen-Maguire cover… there ought to be a law against it.

I’d buy a Death’s Head book!

I may be the only one who would buy a Batroc title.

Everyone would buy the Beta Ray Bill, but the human skull horse comment was inspired Squashua.

Always loved Cloak and Dagger, this looks like an interesting take artistically and storyline wise.

I wonder how many covers we could do with “characters Bendis is convinced you like”….because that one nails it.

And love the Squadron Supreme, convinced that could be the tribute cover to a new first issue.
