The Line it is Drawn #127 – Superheroes Break Bad!

Go follow Comics Should Be Good on Twitter (if you have Twitter, that is – if you don’t, you can go sign up). Here is our Twitter page… http://twitter.com/csbg. And here are the Comics Should Be Good writers who are on Twitter (the links go to the person’s Twitter account) – myself, Greg Hatcher, Chad Nevett, Kelly Thompson, Bill Reed, Greg Burgas, Sonia Harris, Melissa K. and Ken H.
I update the blog’s Twitter account updates whenever a new post is put up on the blog, so it’s an easy way to keep up with the blog. In addition, I post new content on the blog’s Twitter account.
Now on to the bit!
So every week, I ask a question here. You reply to it on our Twitter page (just write @csbg with your reply) and our blog sketch artists will each pick one of your suggestions and I will post them here every week. So every week you will have a new question and you will see the choices picked from the previous week. Here is an archive of all the previous editions of The Line It Is Drawn!
To qualify, you have to be following us when you reply – so go follow us and then give your answer to the following question/challenge (All suggestions due by 9:00 AM Pacific on Friday).
The topic is…
Every fifty installments, this will be the theme! Mash-up a comic book character and a famous music album cover!
Read on for the sketches that came about courtesy of the last question/challenge!
In honor of Cyclops and Uncanny X-Men #1, the theme is superheroes gone bad! Pick a superhero that you’d like to see our artists depict as a villain. What would Superman look like if he was a bad guy? Or Captain America? You get the picture. If they feel like it, our artists might even draw a villain as a good guy fighting the villainous hero (if they feel like it, of course).
Enjoy!
I’ll put them in alphabetical order based on the name of the Twitter user who made the suggestion.

I LOVE Streaky the Evil-Cat and Krypto the Rabid-Dog! They could totally be the Earth-3 versions.

For everyone asking “Since when is ALF a superhero,” the answer is “Since Alf #4, when he used his anti-gravity belt and Kate’s tablecloth to become The Fantastic Fur!”

Wow, Josh actually came up with a way to make Alf seem scary.
The bloody feet on Sean’s Supergirl piece are pretty chilling to contemplate. Well done, sir. Nice costume design, too!
Paul’s Sailor Moon is also pretty creepy.
TWO pieces? Damn you, Perks. Damn you stupid, talented, supremely prolific Nick Perks.
And OF COURSE Axel interpreted “Sinister SIx” that way. OF COURSE.
I love that Evil Tick has a spork. Great colors by Amanda, too!
Very clever twist on the evil concept for Starfire, Steve. Nicely done!
And Kudos to Chaz for the “DC Cab” reference. Great week, guys!
Xum and Bill, you were missed.

Xum *was* missed this week, but damn, John, you really nailed it. Gorgeous designs, layout, rendering. Just spot on in every department.

I absolutely love that the Tick has a spork! The Starfire one is very clever.

The bloody feet on McFarland’s evil Supergirl really make the piece work. Also, best version of the Sinister Six ever.

D’oh! Brendan and Daniel, you were both missed as well. Didn’t mean to omit you.
…I’ve left someone else out, haven’t I? We have too many damn people to keep track of.

Love Starfire, good one!
Krypto, Streaky and Supergirl are good, too.
Teen Titans is good, and reminds me of the posters for the old 50′s b-movies. Classic.

Man, evil Supergirl is awesome! But evil Sailor Moon is COMPLETELY TERRIFYING.

These are spectacular, but special praise goes to Steve Howard and Axel for humor, and to Nick Perks and John Trumbull for lovely pieces that actually make me hunger for series with those concepts! I’d love to see a Teen Delinquents/Yancy Street Gang inter-universe crossover….

Spidey and the Evil Tick ones were my favorites this week, but everyone deserves a round of applause for the great work presented here.

Sailor Moon and Alf are great

I love the visual references to actual “troubled youth” movies of the 50s in John Trumbull’s piece: Aqualad looks like Marlon Brando in The Wild One, and Robin is James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause. But are the other two characters referencing something too? Wonder Girl’s pose does look familiar to me, but I can’t quite place it…
John Trumbull
February 22, 2013 at 6:15 am
Wonder Girl’s pose is from the poster of the Ann-Margaret movie Kitten With A Whip. Kid Flash’s pose was derived from one of Astrid Kirchherr’s photos of the Beatles in Hamburg.

Wow!
Evil Streaky, Krypto & Supergirl would no doubt give a hard time to the JLA. (And if she is from Earth-Three then kryptonite would just make her more powerful.)
I love that Sailor Moon’s hair decs look like eyes! 8)
Great Bat-Man/Joker switches!
If it was the ex-girlfriends who went evil then why is it Spidey who sounds like such a dick? Aren’t we supposed to root for the heroes, not the villains?
Keen Titans!
LOL at Starfire’s evil plan! Noooooooooo!!!!
Sporrrrrrrrrrrrk!
Is that Batman comment a reference to an earlier LIID where WW was a dominatrix?

Do you have a thing for Amanda Rodgers? Every week, it’s all flattery. No one else gets that treatment.

The Starfire one made me laugh.

That is one scary looking Supergirl.
And . . . busty cyborg Gwen Stacy. Is it bad that I kind of wish that would happen in-continuity? Besides, all of Spidey’s exes turning evil would lend more credence to his “unlucky in love” reputation.

While I greatly enjoyed them all, I have to admit that Evil Starfire and Space Cabby confessions made me laugh and laugh.

Love the multiple homages in the Evil Teen Titans. The “evil” Starfire was an amusing touch too. Heh.

Dude. Evil Alf. He looks like a flyer for a thrash metal show.

This is definitely the best bunch I’ve seen in a long time.
That Sailor Moon really is disturbing. Are they standing in blood?
Is Alf really evil enough in that picture, though? I could see him holding a cat skull even under normal circumstances.

Hey John Trumbull, guessing you intentionally didn’t use Speedy because of his legit troubled past?

No, just because he wasn’t an original Titan.
