Comics Should Be Good 2013 March Madness: Round 1

Welcome to Comic Should Be Good’s fifth annual March Madness tournament!

The goal this year is to simply choose which run on different team books you like the best. So choose whichever run is your favorite (whether it be that you think it was more interesting, more appealing, whatever criteria you want to use) in each of the following eight match-ups. You’re judging the run itself, not the individual characters that make up the team in the listed run.

Here are each of the four Regions.

Click on each one to vote for that region.

DANGER ROOM REGION, ROUND 1

X-MANSION REGION, ROUND 1

BAXTER BUILDING REGION, ROUND 1

WATCHTOWER REGION, ROUND 1

I decided to vote only in the cases where I had read a considerable bunch of both runs, even if I love one of the runs and probably wouldn’t care about the other. Which came to mean that I didn’t vote in that many pairs.

42 Chris Claremont runs, but no Frank MillerSticking with Daredevil, no Nocenti/JRJR, or Smith/Quesada or Bendis/Mack? ? Robinson/Harris on Starman? No Bendis/Bagley on Ultimate Spider-man? Stan Sakai on Usagi? Diggle/Jock on Losers? Ennis/Dillon on Preacher? And if Watchmen is on the list, then we’re counting Limited Series, which opens even more doors. Miller’s Ronin, Cooke’s Golden Age, and on and on. Not to take away anything from the creators listed as part of the survey, but more diversity would be nice.

Team books.

im illiterate, doh! Does Gotham Central count? My top 4 seeds would be Claremont/Byrne on X-Men, Wolfman/Perez on New Teen Titans, Moore/Gibbons on Watchmen, and … this one’s tough. Ellis’s Planetary was phenominal, but his Authority is what changed the rules of story-telling, so Id go with that, sad that Lee/Kirby’s FF run couldnt make the cut.

I went with just books with superpowered characters so I could avoid tough questions like “Is Easy Company a team? How about G.I. Joe?”

Team books.

I can’t wait to see how Batman pulls this one off.

Morrison’s JLA, maybe. :)

Or Giffen/DeMatteis’ JLI (“One Punch!”)

Batman from Morrison’s JLA has already figured out how to beat every other character in this matchup.

Then make hairy chested love god love to every woman in it, too.

But yeah, this is hella fun stuff, Brian. Thanks for all the work you put into it.
