The Great Comic Book Cover Homage Streak: Week 26

It occurs to me that it seems like many comic book covers are homages. Which is fine with me. I have no problem with it. It just made me think, though, how long could I go before I hit a week where NO new comic book was released that had a cover that was an homage to something? Let’s find out! Here is an archive of all the cover homages featured in the streak so far!

This week, we’ll go with Giuseppe Camuncoli’s cover for the third printing of Amazing Spider-Man #700, homaging John Romita and Frank Giacoia’s cover for Amazing Spider-Man #100.

Twenty-six weeks down! Will we make it to week twenty-seven?

I was certain that the cover for ‘Artifacts’ #26 (woman curled on some tentacles) is an homage, but I could not find the original image anywhere.

It’s nice to see that the inner Doc Ock looks like Doc Ock and not, well, the way he’d been looking more recently.

I thought the same thing about Artifacts #26. I think maybe it’s an homage to the movie poster for “Species.”

It’s sort of a homage to the “Ghost in the Shell” TPB.

That sounds about right, but it also is one of those sort of generic homages where it seems like it more trying to evoke covers like Ghost in the Shell rather than outright homaging it. Of course, I could be totally wrong and there’s a cover out there that it is a direct homage of.

I thought of Ghost In The Shell and Species, too! But they aren’t upside down, so it is not exact. At least a few people are on the same wavelength, so there must be something to it. I also had the notion that it was from some art from The Matrix or Animatrix, but I could not find it.
