Comic Book Team Tournament – Watchtower Region, Round 3

The third round of voting continues!

Simply choose which run on the team book you like better. So choose whichever run is your favorite (whether it be that you think it was more interesting, more appealing, whatever criteria you want to use) in each of the following eight match-ups. You’re judging the run itself, not the individual characters that make up the team in the listed run. The voting concludes 48 hours from right now!

NOTE: The polls are in Javascript. If your computer doesn’t allow java, well, you won’t see the polls.

Probably doesn’t need pointing out, but just in case- the title for the second poll still lists X-Statix instead of Avengers.

Thanks, Will, I fixed it!

Here’s hoping Busiek/Perez’s Avengers wins over Watchmen, by far the greatest Avengers run of all time. OF ALL TIME!!!

Morrison’s JLA vs. Hickman’s Fantastic Four/FF?!? Man I hit a wall on judging this one….. I think the fact that Morrison’s JLA soooooo invigorated the DC Universe at the time (made comics that were not only exciting, but actually readable) that I give him the edge over the Fantastic work done by Hickman.

X-Statix > Watchmen.

JLA is, other than All-Star, by far the best thing Morrison’s done at Marvel or DC, for my money. It wins this matchup.

Watchmen should lap the field. It’s just better than everything else in the tourney, in my view.

I do quite like the Busiek/Perez Avengers (it was an excellent time passer with eye pleasing art), but in many ways it felt more about preserving the integrity of the characters after Heroes Reborn and other missteps, not that groundbreaking overall. Watchmen OTOH was extremely groundbreaking and challenged the readers. That run of Avengers was what the Avengers needed at the time, but Watchmen was what comics in general needed, and still haven’t learned as much from as they could.

So, I’m actually voting here not on how much I like something but by assessing the power levels/ skills of the line ups like I would Fantasy Football or a roll playing game. Is anyone else doing that or is everyone just voting their favorite based on the actual stories?

JLA, pretty easily

Watchmen equally easy – it shouldn’t even be in this because it’s so far beyond the competition. And I love Busiek’s Avengers and would gladly vote for it a few rounds, but it drew bad here.

the last one was a hard call but went with perezs and kurts avengers narrowly beating the watchman

Jack R – I’m following Brian’s instruction at the top “Simply choose which run on the team book you like better”

This are probably my easiest choices in round 3 (Buseik/Perez is not one of my 5 favourite Avengers runs and I’ve never been that wild on the FF)
