House to Astonish Episode 104

Even though it’s been a relatively quiet couple of weeks for comics news, Paul and I still somehow managed to put together an hour and three quarters of discussion of the Saga/Comixology shenanigans, the first transgender character in the New 52, the sad passing of Carmine Infantino and the July solicitations. We’ve also got reviews of Avengers Assemble AU, Batman and Invincible Universe, and the Official Handbook of the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe is going swimmingly. All this plus Bob Harras’s trousers falling down, what AU really stands for and Marvel’s most confusingly numbered ongoing series.

As usual, we want to know what you think about the big issues of the week, including but not limited to:

  • Does the Saga & Comixology fiasco show that there’s a problem with the current digital distribution system?
  • Who’s the most adaptable villain in Batman’s rogues gallery?
  • Are you looking forward to the Trinity War storyline?

Also, let’s not forget that we’ve got a new merchandise store, where you can get our super snazzy shirts. Check it out!

I am pretty sure that is was said that is always the plan for Lemire to leave after a few issues and that Ray Fawkes would take over full time since they were announced on the book like Snyder and Tynion on Talon. Plus Lemire had said that Fawkes was doing most of the work on Constantine since Lemire already had a full slate.

“always the plan” after Venditti was no longer on Constantine, maybe. What was the deal with that, I don’t think I ever heard why in particular he didn’t end up doing Constantine?

Venditti left to do Green Lantern.

They are on point about the general state of DC but Fawkes going solo on Constantine seems like a bad example of it. This is like Hickman going solo on Secret Warriors after a few issues with Bendis or any of the other numerous examples of a more popular writer paired with a less popular writer to launch a series. Talon with Snyder/Tynion then Tynion is another recent example.
