The Great Comic Book Cover Homage Streak: Week 31

It occurs to me that it seems like many comic book covers are homages. Which is fine with me. I have no problem with it. It just made me think, though, how long could I go before I hit a week where NO new comic book was released that had a cover that was an homage to something? Let’s find out! Here is an archive of all the cover homages featured in the streak so far!

This week, we’ll go with Edwin Huang & Jim Zubkavich’s cover for Mighty Skullkickers #1, which is homaging Walter Simonson’s Thor #337 cover.

Thirty-one weeks down! Will we make it to week thirty-two?

That Simonson cover has to be one of the greatest of all time. It’s no Amazing Spider-Man 300, but I’m surprised you don’t see more people destroying their titles.

It’s more common that you see people BEING destroyed by their titles — a la that Steranko Hulk cover.

Am I the only one who hates the cover for ASM #300? It’s not the art, which is fine, but the design – with all those 300 over and over in the background – is absolutely godawful. It makes my eyes bleed.

#301, which has the exact same art, except with the classic costume and a nice, soothing, clean white background, is a billion times better.
