3 Chicks Review Comics – Episode 055

Hey! It’s our 55th Episode!3 Chicks Blue Brown Final2sized

Inside this episode! A review of Cullen Bunn and Will Sliney’s Fearless Defenders #4. We also talk about superheroine costume redesign, which we’ve all learned over the last few weeks is apparently ALL CAPS DRAMATIC! All that said, if you want to see some amazing function redesigns (including the best Zatanna redesign I’ve ever seen) check out these designs by Meredith McClaren – and if you like what you see – support McClaren’s Kickstarter!) Last, but certainly not least is an interview with Amy Reeder. We talk about her Rocket Girl Kickstarter with writer Brandon Montclare and what it’s like to work for yourself, versus working for big companies, and much much more.

Here are the breaks:

Review of Fearless Defenders #4 – 01:00

Interview with Amy Reeder – 11:32

Okay, seriously, you HAVE to keep doing the Insane Replies in Silly Voices
I was literally giggling like a kid listening to it!!

hehehe “i wanted to barf on my keyboard”

I agree with Christian, the reading of the crazies comments was beyond hilarious. Awesome episode.

I once got in a conversation with a dude I know about how impractical female superhero costumes are, and was told I was slut-shaming Starfire. I had to explain to a grown man that a comic book character did not choose her own costume. This happened.

Yeah, as I said during the cast. We can pretty much all go home now, as 3 Chicks will never be better/funnier than Sue doing that dramatic reading. And we ARE going to revisit it every week. Count on it!

when i think of a character that uses here gender as a advantage is modesty Blaise eg: she has a tactic called (get this) the nailer. what is the nailer you ask well “in which she would appear topless, distracting the bad guys long enough to give Willie or herself a chance to incapacitate them”

Anyone who would be distracted that much would have to be a total boob.

Thank you, thank you very much!

Great episode! I like Fearless Defenders enough to stick with it for now. Issue 2 was a complete mess but this last issue really picked up the pace and I’m excited for the next one. And thanks for the interview with Amy Reeder. I wasn’t aware of her current Kickstarter project and I was able to contribute after hearing about it. Keep up the great work ladies :)

1) Sue’s reading had me laughing so hard I nearly had to pull over. That was genius.

2) Kelly nailed it on all her arguments about it being hard to fight a woman who looks sexy. Nailed it on all points.

3) The ninja-women wearing revealing clothing to be silent thing, yeah. I just heard that for the first time recently. I suspect the source was someone making it up to justify the imagery and through the power of the Internet it became a “thing”. Their primary source was probably a Geocities site.

4) From the comments above, ” I had to explain to a grown man that a comic book character did not choose her own costume.” Just when I think people have run out of ways to dumbfound me, I’m proven wrong. Wow.

I have an eight year old daughter who loves comics. On her wall are posters of the Justice League and the Amazing Spider-Girl. She has a Powerpuff Girls comforter and a collection of action figures. When we do bedtime stories we often make up stories about her, or our dog, or the whole family as superheroes. Thank you for bringing up issues that will make comics better for her (and all the rest of us too).

Not only are there scores of scantily clad women these dudes can look at on the internet, but there’s tons of sexy cosplay, AND fan art (some of it of high quality) of these female comics characters, so I don’t know why some dudes need to have their comic book characters to show flesh.

Also, if you want to have your mind blown even more than the female character designs in American comics do, check out some of the anime/manga that’s out there. You wanna talk unrealistic female ninjas? Psylocke is tiddlywinks.

Now, I leave you with this: Larry Croft.
