The Great Comic Book Cover Homage Streak: Week 33

It occurs to me that it seems like many comic book covers are homages. Which is fine with me. I have no problem with it. It just made me think, though, how long could I go before I hit a week where NO new comic book was released that had a cover that was an homage to something? Let’s find out! Here is an archive of all the cover homages featured in the streak so far!

This is a first! I am actually changing covers. My first pick was Dave Ross’ cover for Iron Man #258.2, but I wanted to make sure that it was, in fact, an homage. Too much time passed from when I initially asked Dave about it, so I put up another cover. But Dave just got back to me and he confirmed that it was, indeed, an homage, so I am going back to using it.

So this week we’ll go with Dave Ross’ cover to Iron Man #258.2, which is homaging the famous scene in Apoclaypse Now when Martin Sheen’s character pops his head out from the water.

Thirty-three weeks down! Will we reach thirty-four>?

Also, “World’s Collide” may be a reference to the original DC / Milestone crossover.

More likely both are in reference to the classic SF novel and film WHEN WORLDS COLLIDE.

Just for the record it was Martin Sheen that came out of the water not Marlon Brando.

Oh how weird, I didn’t even see this when it was posted.
