The Line it is Drawn #139 – A Comic Book Tribute to Ray Harryhausen

Go follow Comics Should Be Good on Twitter (if you have Twitter, that is – if you don’t, you can go sign up). Here is our Twitter page… http://twitter.com/csbg. And here are the Comics Should Be Good writers who are on Twitter (the links go to the person’s Twitter account) – myself, Greg Hatcher, Chad Nevett, Kelly Thompson, Bill Reed, Greg Burgas, Sonia Harris, Melissa K. and Ken H.

I update the blog’s Twitter account updates whenever a new post is put up on the blog, so it’s an easy way to keep up with the blog. In addition, I post new content on the blog’s Twitter account.

Now on to the bit!

So every week, I ask a question here. You reply to it on our Twitter page (just write @csbg with your reply) and our blog sketch artists will each pick one of your suggestions and I will post them here every week. So every week you will have a new question and you will see the choices picked from the previous week. Here is an archive of all the previous editions of The Line It Is Drawn!

To qualify, you have to be following us when you reply – so go follow us and then give your answer to the following question/challenge (All suggestions due by Noon Pacific Friday).

The topic is…

With the new Star Trek film out this week, the theme is to team-up/mash-up comic book characters with Star Trek characters!

Read on for the sketches that came about courtesy of the last question/challenge!

Mash-up comic book characters with the films of the late, great Ray Harryhausen! Here is a filmography of his work to pick from.

I’ll put them in alphabetical order based on the name of the Twitter user who made the suggestion.

Great tribute to a great film legend, folks!

Okay, now you readers beam yourselves to Twitter and tweet us suggestions for next week!

Not how I envisioned Destroyer Vs. Minoton when I pitched it, but that makes it all the better! It’s my second favourite (my number 1 is JLA vs the Flying Saucers and number 3 is Tor in One Million BC. I actually suggested Hannah Dundee from Cadillacs and Dinosaurs (AKA Xenozoic Tales) in One Million BC, but I guess it was too obscure.

That pun is horrendous, Sean.

Well done.

what’s with all that stuff about Amanda?

fury, someone here used the lyrics of an oldies song as an excuse to give credit to a talented colorist. But was it wise to discuss two female creators using a Barenaked Ladies number? ;)

Oops, that was last week’s. That was a cut and paste mistake. I accidentally switched the lyrics of LAST week’s one with this week’s one, but now they’re both fixed!

The New 52 version of Greg Rucka’s Wonder Woman apparently ends very differently.

I have never not loved one of these columns.

I do kind of wish the Cyclops vs Cyclops one had instead gone with a reference to the “I want this thing off my lawn” bit from Whedon’s run. Just because I love that part and would enjoy seeing Harryhausen’s cyclops get what’s coming to him.

Oh man, this was a fun one this week! RIP, Ray.

I’ve actually shaken hands with the guy, back in 2004. One of the greatest days of my life.

Brian . . . I don’t have a Twitter account, but I got an idea for the Star Trek mashup. Could I e-mail it to you?

Amanda Rodgers is bad, but she’s bad in the context of the song, not in the pejorative way. Great work folks! I need to watch Sinbad again, as I do not 110% remember the reference in the piece, but I know it was awesome.

Great work everyone…. Josh that made me laugh out loud! Rest in Peace Ray! Great movies. Awesome memories!

Fuck yeah Josh Gowdy.

Wonder Woman wins, since her backstory is partly drawn from Greek mythology in the first place.

Seth, you owe me a keyboard. That was fantastic, among a bunch of excellent pieces,
