The Great Comic Book Cover Homage Streak: Week 40

It occurs to me that it seems like many comic book covers are homages. Which is fine with me. I have no problem with it. It just made me think, though, how long could I go before I hit a week where NO new comic book was released that had a cover that was an homage to something? Let’s find out! Here is an archive of all the cover homages featured in the streak so far!

This week, we’ll go with Michal and Laura Allred’s cover for FF #8, which homages Al Jaffee’s famous fold-in back covers to Mad magazine..

I “folded” the FF cover for y’all if you’d like to see what it looks like. Here it is.

Forty weeks down! Will we make it to week forty-one?

Doom? Who’da thunk?

One of the best homages yet. It’s just a bit if a shame that Dr Doom is clearly visible – twice – before you even fold it.

You folded it !!. It’s no longer mint!!!

It took me a while to get into allred’s style, but I now have gobs of respect for his creativity and clean crisp work.

I haven’t read this issue yet, and apparently hadn’t looked that close at the cover, because I didn’t even notice it was a Mad Magazine fold-in. That’s awesome. And thanks for folding it for us. Even though it’s pretty obvious what the result was going to be, it’s still cool to see without having to crease up my copy. :)

Yeah, I bought it myself and totally didn’t see that. Nice!

Since the end of May (and a fifth week) has come and gone, and that was my guess for when the streak would end, I’ll move it up to July 31.

Or never, which is the other guess I have…

“Folding” the thing is easily accomplished digitally.

So no big deal.

Unless ….?

Hence “folding” being in quotes. ;)

It’s also an homage to FF# 47 too, right? That’s the first thing I thought of when I saw the cover.
