The Great Comic Book Cover Homage Streak: Week 45

It occurs to me that it seems like many comic book covers are homages. Which is fine with me. I have no problem with it. It just made me think, though, how long could I go before I hit a week where NO new comic book was released that had a cover that was an homage to something? Let’s find out! Here is an archive of all the cover homages featured in the streak so far!

This week, we’ll go with Andrew Pepoy’s cover for Archie #646, which homages Wally Wood’s cover for Weird Science-Fantasy #27. Interestingly enough, this week ALSO had a SEPARATE homage to Weird Science-Fantasy with Paolo Rivera’s cover for Guardians of the Galaxy #5 (likely referring to the same Wood cover as Pepoy).

Forty-five weeks down! Will we make it to week forty-six?

Wow, I totally love that Archie cover. The GOTG one is fun too, but Pepoy just nailed it.

I was totally hoping you’d go for this one. I ordered this issue based solely on that sweet sweet cover.

The insides are certainly decent, with an amusing little tale, but that cover is so good.

Archie is kickin’ butt with their variant covers. There was a Snow White one on Betty and Veronica, I think by Jill Thompson, and there’s a Stephanie Buscema one coming up too.

Plus, I kid you not, Walt Simonson “Thor” cover (Archie’s playing the role of Thor, I do believe).

So awesome.
