The Great Comic Book Cover Homage Streak: Week 47

It occurs to me that it seems like many comic book covers are homages. Which is fine with me. I have no problem with it. It just made me think, though, how long could I go before I hit a week where NO new comic book was released that had a cover that was an homage to something? Let’s find out! Here is an archive of all the cover homages featured in the streak so far!

This week, we’ll go with Gary Barker’s cover for Garfield’s Pet Force Special #1, which is, of course, homaging Jeff Johnson and Terry Austin’s classic cover for Wonder Man #18.

Forty-seven weeks down! Will we make it to week forty-eight?

Ummm…Wonder Man? Don’t recall that cover, but if this an homage to that, that was obviously an homage to Amazing Spider-Man #50…

And yet he wrote “Of course”. Yikes.

Oh, the smell of newbies.

This Wonder Man #18 bit makes me laugh every time. I’ll be disappointed if and when it’s not mentioned for other homages.

And no matter how many times he does this bit, someone gets taken in by it every time. I love it.

Fished in!

It’s not just a running gag, this gag has done a 5K, at least.

And yet it’s still funny.

It’s certainly odd that in less than a year, that same image gets referenced several times.

A sense of vindication overwhelms me, after not having fallen for that. Ever

Silly Brian. What’s next, “The Draco” making it into the Top 3 X-Men stories?
