Cover Theme Game for 9/25

Every week you’ll get a brand-new comic cover theme game! The game works like this: I’ll show you three covers. They all have something in common, whether it be a character, a trait all three characters share, a connection between all three characters, a locale, a trait all three creators share, SOMEthing. And it isn’t something obvious like “They all have prices!” “They all have logos!” “They all feature a man!” “They are all Avengers (who ISN’T?)!” “They’re all dead (who HASN’T been killed off?)!” “They’ve all been cloned (who HASN’T been cloned?)!” “They’re all mutants! (who ISN’T a mutant?)” “They’re all legacy heroes (who ISN’T a legacy hero nowadays?)!” “They’re all by the same artist!” (too obvious) etc.

In addition, please note that you must have some familiarity with comic book history to correctly guess these comics. You cannot guess the connective theme just by looking at the covers solely, you must have some knowledge beyond just the covers. The connections will ONLY have to do with connections in the actual comic books (so no incidental connections like “they share the same last names of Vice Presidents,” etc. Now, if the three characters were each named Gerald Ford, that’d be another story, as that’d no longer be incidental).

If you come up with an answer that works outside of what I intended, I’ll give you credit (well, provided I think it fits, of course).

One more thing – if there are floating heads on the cover, ignore them! They don’t mean anything! Same thing with corner boxes!

If you think you know the answer, e-mail me at bcronin@comicbookresources.com. Don’t answer in the comments. This way, people who check in at different times of the day can still get credit for answering it correctly!

Here is an archive of all the past cover theme games, plus their answers. Before each new installment, I’ll post the answers to the previous week’s game.

Good luck and enjoy!

I feel a little bad over the trickiness of the 9/11 theme, so I made this one about as easy as I can make these things (which is to say, still hard, but more gettable than normal). I expect a deluge of answers! Anything less and I will be quite sad.

I believe the paragraph above the first cover (noting it’s a reposting of the previous game) is copied from last week. In the archives there are no answers to last week’s game (9/18) and the link to the game is broken.

I feel like I’m missing something. Were you gonna repost last week’s theme? Also, am jeering the right images here? I feel like we did this one before.

Sigh, *am I seeing the right images. Feel free to jeer my inability to cope with autocorrect.

Er, none of these covers have any characters in common with last week’s, so perhaps this theme is more convoluted than you think it is.

Was the 9/11 one ever answered? I threw my guess in for that week along with this weeks.
I had to google the [middle cover] to make sure I was thinking of the correct connection.

Yeah, I’m also a bit confused. I never saw one last week, so do you mean the 9/11 one? If so, I checked and all the covers are the same. Are you planning to repost it but haven’t yet or is this the same theme as two weeks ago?

Sorry, folks, I put in the links to the answers for last week’s and the 9/11 one, but I failed to click on “update” so they are just sitting there on my screen but not your screens. :) They’re up now. This is a brand-new game.

Brian,

You posted the answer to the 9/11 game and its retry on 9/18 but have not posted the answer to the second contest on 9/18. Did anyone get the 9/18 contest (that contains the Avengers #102 cover)?

I certainly submitted an answer for 9/18 (although it may have been too obvious).

Clicking on 9/18 answer gives the 9/11 answer only, not the new one you added in addition to the unsolved 9/11 one

The 9/18 answer should be visible now.

Yay, I got my 2nd one in a month correct! Although this time I was credited as “jazzo.”

You prefer that, right?

Jazzo, Jazzbo, Adam J – doesn’t matter which one you want to use. :)

Ooooh! This one is easy. I didn’t even have to research anything.

Do Husk and Jubilee count as “floating heads”?

Do Husk and Jubilee count as “floating heads”?

Yes.

Thanks for giving me credit for 9/11. Overlooked Bishop on that other cover. :)
