The Great Comic Book Cover Homage Streak: Week 59

It occurs to me that it seems like many comic book covers are homages. Which is fine with me. I have no problem with it. It just made me think, though, how long could I go before I hit a week where NO new comic book was released that had a cover that was an homage to something? Let’s find out! Here is an archive of all the cover homages featured in the streak so far!

This week, we’ll go with Salvador Larroca’s cover for Mighty Avengers #3, featuring Iron Man and Eminem, which is homaging both the cover for Eminem’s Marshall Mathers LP as well as the cover for Eminem’s brand-new Marshall Mathers LP 2

Fifty-nine weeks down! Will we make it to week sixty?

Is this some bizarre crossover promotion? Why…why do this? My haid hurt!

Please tell me that Eminem appears in the comic!

Heck, Iron Man doesn’t even appear in this comic book.

That’s real shady.

Marvel really is the home of “Why is this even happening?” variants that have nothing whatsoever to do with anything going on in the book. Often they won’t even have anything to do with the actual cast of the book, like all those Deadpool variants on series that have nothing to do with Deapool.

It is pretty random, but at least Eminem is a noted comic book fan, so it feels a bit more organic than completely souless marketing. He did previosly feature in this gem, after all: http://uk.ign.com/articles/2009/05/05/eminem-teams-with-marvels-punisher

Is Millar doing Wanted 2 through Marvel and this is stealth pre-marketing?

it’s preferable to the normal cover…
