The Line it is Drawn #173 – Marvel Comics Meets Star Wars!

Welcome to our weekly gallery of amazing art by our great collection of artistic talent, all working from YOUR suggestions!

Go follow Comics Should Be Good on Twitter (if you have Twitter, that is – if you don’t, you can go sign up). Here is our Twitter page… http://twitter.com/csbg. And here are the Comics Should Be Good writers who are on Twitter (the links go to the person’s Twitter account) – myself, Greg Hatcher, Chad Nevett, Kelly Thompson, Bill Reed, Greg Burgas, Sonia Harris, Melissa K. and Ken H.

I update the blog’s Twitter account updates whenever a new post is put up on the blog, so it’s an easy way to keep up with the blog. In addition, I post new content on the blog’s Twitter account.

Now on to the bit!

So every week, I ask a question here. You reply to it on our Twitter page (just write @csbg with your reply) and our blog sketch artists will each pick one of your suggestions and I will post them here every week. So every week you will have a new question and you will see the choices picked from the previous week. Here is an archive of all the previous editions of The Line It Is Drawn!

To qualify, you have to be following us when you reply – so go follow us and then give your answer to the following question/challenge (All suggestions due by 3pm Pacific Friday).

The topic is…

In honor of Matt Fraction’s upcoming gender-swapped take on the Odyssey, switch the genders on a comic book character! Hellgirl, Alan and Markie, Scotia Pilgrim, etc.!

Read on for the sketches that came about courtesy of the last question/challenge!

In honor of the news that Marvel will be taking making Star Wars comic books in 2015, the theme this week is to team-up or mash-up Star Wars characters and Marvel Comics characters.

Enjoy!

I’ll put them in alphabetical order based on the name of the Twitter user who made the suggestion.

Great work, everybody!

Okay, folks, go tweet us suggestions for next week!

I didn’t think of it in time to submit the idea last week but Han, Luke, Leia and Chewie in place of the Fantastic Four would have worked really well for this theme.

Something looks wrong with the presentation of the GotG / SW pic.

OK, nevermind – it got fixed. Aw, those aren’t the ORIGINAL GotG members. :-(

I’m surprised nobody nominated Luke Calrissian, Power Man.

No FF? yes, everyone submitted the ide (me included), but it’s because is a no brainer, should have been there :(

Sarlaac/ Venom is my favorite thing involving Venom ever.

Deadpool and Boba…Best crossover idea ever! The way Marvel is with Merc…it wouldn’t surprise me if they don’t make it happen.

Liked Ego vs. Death Star and Rocket showing those Ewoks what for.

Nice job!

I think Boba Fett deserves way better than to be paired up with that tired joke Deadpool.

I love seeing what people thought of…love the Rocket Racoon/Ewoks one…

@Nickp Cool! thanks… I see Deadpool and Boba Fett has been done before also :-)

We actually received 182 Twitter suggestions. We cannot possibly do them all.

(And yes, some of those were Lando as Power Man… or teaming up for a “Where’s my money, nHoney” scene with Vader.)

Also, Brian removes the Twitter handles, so we are not “playing favorites” since we don’t know who suggested what.

Pirates, nothing but Pirates…
Not the original GOTG, but maybe this crew is more likely to be in a cantina. Great old school SW painted cover look.
You’d think Ego would be more afraid….
Not sure why FF is “been there, done that” but Deadpool/Fett get another team up.
Those are some confused Ewoks.
Venom needs some tentacles to go with the matching teeth.
Great concept, and nice nod to Dark Horse.
Kraven/Chewie cover very Zeck like. And yes, that is a compliment of the highest variety.
So Matt Murdock has been using the Force all this time?
I knew just scrolling down it was Xum. I find it amusing because the Nova Corps always seem kind of lame to me.
Great idea for the Galactus snack. He forgot to take the metal wrapping off his Hersey Kiss.
Really nice Kirby feel the piece, without just outright aping him.
Would Black Widow even stop at just Lando? She gets around, just sayin’
Colt 45…little bit racist, whole lotta funny.
Are rancors related to bilgesnipes?

Awesome as always.

I love Chaz’s Ego vs. the Death Star piece. The action and detail are great.

Cynthia’s “Dark Horse No More” is perfect – the hyperbole of the original cover transformed in a tellingly sad farewell to an era.

Boba Fett and Deadpool is such a fun concept and it comes across so well in Marco’s drawing.

Nick’s Kirby Krackle on the lightsabers – so well done. It’s also a great homage – inspired work.

Xum is doing work for Marvel now? I thought there was an exclusive contract with DC! :)

All the drawings are great – thanks for another great Friday treat!

Wolverine-M, considering how Billy Dee used to do commercials for Colt 45, its not actually racist. Thanks for your concern though

The Ewoks and Rocket Raccoon idea is just begging to be a 12 part mega event comic ala Archie and the Punisher. Same thing with Kraven versus Chewbacca.

Fantastic work everyone! :-D

Nice work, Paul Hostetler! Pushing the abstraction so hard – I love it!

The Ewoks and Rocket Raccoon idea is just begging to be a 12 part mega event comic ala Archie and the Punisher. Same thing with Kraven versus Chewbacca.

But Archie Meets the Punisher was done-in-one! Once upon a time, such things were possible.

Everything is amazing this week. Makes it hard to pick a favourite, but for me it might be Robert Rath or Mike Rooth.

Love Leia and Black Widow! Fett and Deadpool is a good one too, along with Luke’s ‘no more’ piece.

Thanks for the compliments, Stefan!

Sasquatch, I thought hard about using the old school Guardians because they are so great. But in the end, I liked the symmetry of Han/Quill Chewie/Groot Leia/Gamorra and also because the new/movie Guardians are the group I’ll bet money that Marvel will cross over with SW someday.

I also try to use these Line assignments to explore different techniques — even though doing a solid, retro cover with those characters is like crack to draw. I’m totally jealous of all the other Liners whose natural style grooves right into such great funny/homage illustrations. I can — and have — done retro illustrations, but always worry that those solutions aren’t really where my work is taking me, even if they come off more successfully than other experiments!

Such artistic anguish! :)

Sorry for the name mix up, Squashua! As all my friends will tell you, I have Bigfoot on the brain!

I love you, Marco! Oh my, that was hilarious!

And Nick did a sweet Kirby homage.

Everyone did great as usual, though.

yeah the colt 45 thing isn’t racist at all, it’s a nod to the fact that he used to do endorsements for them
