The Line it is Drawn #176 – Comic Book Video Game Mash-Ups!

Welcome to our weekly gallery of amazing art by our great collection of artistic talent, all working from YOUR suggestions!

Go follow Comics Should Be Good on Twitter (if you have Twitter, that is – if you don’t, you can go sign up). Here is our Twitter page… http://twitter.com/csbg. And here are the Comics Should Be Good writers who are on Twitter (the links go to the person’s Twitter account) – myself, Greg Hatcher, Chad Nevett, Kelly Thompson, Bill Reed, Greg Burgas, Sonia Harris, Melissa K. and Ken H.

I update the blog’s Twitter account updates whenever a new post is put up on the blog, so it’s an easy way to keep up with the blog. In addition, I post new content on the blog’s Twitter account.

Now on to the bit!

So every week, I ask a question here. You reply to it on our Twitter page (just write @csbg with your reply) and our blog sketch artists will each pick one of your suggestions and I will post them here every week. So every week you will have a new question and you will see the choices picked from the previous week. Here is an archive of all the previous editions of The Line It Is Drawn!

To qualify, you have to be following us when you reply – so go follow us and then give your answer to the following question/challenge (All suggestions due by 3pm Pacific Friday).

The topic is…

For Valentine’s Day, come up with some interesting love connections! Pair two comic characters up for a new romance!

Read on for the sketches that came about courtesy of the last question/challenge!

Here’s a good one we haven’t done in quite a while (and in fact, I don’t think I’ve ever phrased it exactly like this before) – mash-up comic book characters with notable video games!

Enjoy!

I’ll put them in alphabetical order based on the name of the Twitter user who made the suggestion (although I moved one piece around to avoid similar pieces being back to back).

The beer helmet and Hergé-Lara made me smile, thank you :)

I was about to go on a rage rant about Tintin carrying a gun in the Tomb Raider mashup, but then I remembered that he does quite a lot of shooting in the comics, off the top of my head in The Red Sea Sharks and Tintin in America… I wonder why I automatically thought of him as someone who wouldn’t carry and certainly never fire a gun?

I so WANT Lego Watchmen!

Heh. I do the Gorilla Grodd as Donkey Kong bit on my kid’s Batcave toy all the time. Neither my wife nor my kid get the joke, but making the sound effects is fun anyway.

Someone needs to do that 8-bit Power Man and Iron Fist.

Double Dragon Power-Man & Iron Fist! I’d buy that right now!

Great stuff this week. Rocket Raccoon in Space Invaders might be my favourite, but I also love Judge Dredd and Tintin and Lara Croft. And, of course, Damien Wayne: Fruit Ninja is sweet.

That was hella entertaining this week! Way to go everyone!

Oooo, click on Derek’s piece to see a little animation going on.

“When I’m 64!” made my day.

Some extraordinary quality stuff this week, Top props as always to my favorite Line Is drawn artists Thea and Xum and I have to say Nick is really starting to make it a favorite three for me!

Rocket Raccoon for the win.

I like them all quite well, but RR has a certain something.

I’d have placed Doctor Strange in the game of either “The Immortal” or “Solstice”.
BOTH of those games were darn near impossible to get the sorcerer to stay alive (and the wizard in Solstice died with a horrific scream that still haunts me. One of my cats cries like that and I just can’t take it. lol)

Great job by all!

~P~

you guys missed the obvious mash-up here: Old Snake and Deathstroke.

They were all great but now I want to see a Lara Croft comic done like Tintin. It would almost be like Lil’ Tomb Raider.

the machine man beer helmet may be the greatest idea ever

The Rocket was the best, with Nightcrawler being the worst.

Both of the Lego pieces are excellent! Tintin/Lara Croft, Superman 64, Rocket Raccoon/Space Invaders, Catwoman/Castlevania, Doctor Strange/q*bert, and Nightcrawler/Pitfall! are really good too. :-)

Not to nick pick, but the Flash/Donkey Kong mashup is off. The damsel-in-distress was Pauline, not Peach. But, nice homage…
