House to Astonish Episode 120

It’s a big week for movie news, as House to Astonish looks at the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer, the potential Black Widow movie and the Fantastic Four casting, as well as ReedPop’s new New York convention and the May solicitations (no, we didn’t do Dark Horse, but you could probably write those yourself). There are also reviews of Undertow, New Warriors and Loki: Ragnarok and Roll, and the Official Handbook of the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe is a horny devil. All this plus Oprah’s Skrulls, an intervention for a comics company and All-New Steeltown Rockers.

As always, we want to know what you think about the issues of the day, including (but not limited to):

  • What would be your dream Fantastic Four movie cast?
  • Is there a need for more conventions focused on comics alone?
  • What are you most looking forward to from the May solicitations?

The episode is here, or here on Mixcloud.

Before I listen to the podcast, my answers;

1.) My ideal FF movie is a Pixar-style animated film, or at least a heavily stylized OVA. If I could cast any voices, I’d go with Kirk Thornton as Reed Richards, Ali Hillis as Susan Storm, Yuri Lowenthal as Johnny Storm, Christopher Sabat as the Thing, and Michael McConnohie as Victor Von Doom. (My frame of reference is largely dubbed anime, but I’m sure they could do the VA job as well as any famous live-action actor).

2.) Yes, and I hope that comics-only conventions continue to crop up, to fulfil the need for more events focused on the medium now that the movie and TV companies have colonized the most famous annual events.

3.) American Vampire: Second Cycle stands out the most, but I’m also looking forward to the existing ongoings I follow, such as Saga, Voice in the Dark, and the Cornell Wolverine book.

@Neil: Your wish was answered 10 years ago with The Incredibles.
