The Great Comic Book Cover Homage Streak: Week 75

It occurs to me that it seems like many comic book covers are homages. Which is fine with me. I have no problem with it. It just made me think, though, how long could I go before I hit a week where NO new comic book was released that had a cover that was an homage to something? Let’s find out! Here is an archive of all the cover homages featured in the streak so far!

Oops, I forgot to put this up on Tuesday! My bad.

So for last week, we’ll go with Nick Bradshaw’s cover for Wolverine and the X-Men #42, which is, of course, homaging JK Woodward’s cover for Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Last Generation #1

Seventy-five weeks down! Will we make it to week seventy-six?

Who are they kidding here? Jason Aaron doesn’t have any friends! HAHAHAHA

It looks like the first sign of post-apocalypse is that all the tailors die. Somebody patch up all those holes in the clothes!

Wow, I just totally stole P Boz’s joke and beat the crap out of it until the funny was all gone.

Oh, come on! Obviously it’s a ripoff of the promo picture for Season 2 of the Avengers Alliance Facebook game!! GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT, CRONIN!!!1!

That Star Trek cover is hilarious. Why is Patrick holding his fist like that as if claws could come out of it?

Really weird cover.

I think Picard is about to roll some dice and Wesley is trying to mess up the roll.

Not sure I like the Trek cover or not.

Ummm…am I missing something funny here?

This is an homage to X-Men 142 from 1981, Days of Future Past…

Mike, it’s obvious X-Men 142 swiped it from Star Trek, I looked it up twice on Ask Jeeves and my findings cannot be disputed.

Pretty sure that X-Men cover stole the idea from Star Trek.

Damn, if I was only one minute sooner with my comment!

I am a sucker for these homages, I still need to own that Lost Generation Incentive cover as most websites title it. One day.

I was thinking about you when I saw the Wolverine and the X-Men cover last week, John. Did you pick up the Wolverine and the X-Men cover yet?

I still don’t see what connection this has to Leyendecker…

I did Brian! I can only hope you keep spotlighting these when they make the rounds!

I just didn’t want to ruin the fun of the initial posts. Very glad it wasn’t a variant cover.
