The Line it is Drawn #189 – Avenger Time, C’mon, Grab Your Friends…

Welcome to our weekly gallery of amazing art by our great collection of artistic talent, all working from YOUR suggestions!

Go follow Comics Should Be Good on Twitter (if you have Twitter, that is – if you don’t, you can go sign up). Here is our Twitter page… http://twitter.com/csbg. And here are the Comics Should Be Good writers who are on Twitter (the links go to the person’s Twitter account) – myself, Greg Hatcher, Chad Nevett, Kelly Thompson, Bill Reed, Greg Burgas, Sonia Harris, Melissa K. and Ken H.

I update the blog’s Twitter account updates whenever a new post is put up on the blog, so it’s an easy way to keep up with the blog. In addition, I post new content on the blog’s Twitter account.

Now on to the bit!

So every week, I ask a question here. You reply to it on our Twitter page (just write @csbg with your reply) and our blog sketch artists will each pick one of your suggestions and I will post them here every week. So every week you will have a new question and you will see the choices picked from the previous week. Here is an archive of all the previous editions of The Line It Is Drawn!

To qualify, you have to be following us when you reply – so go follow us and then give your answer to the following question/challenge (All suggestions due by 3pm Pacific Friday).

The topic is…

It’s the theme I like to get to at least once a year – comic book cover homages! Suggest a comic book character (or characters) in an homage to a classic comic book cover!

Read on for the sketches that came about courtesy of the last question/challenge!

It’s Avenger Time…with Finn and Jake! Mash-up a member (or members) of the Avengers with the world of Adventure Time! Black Widow and Marceline, stuff like that. Thanks to the first family of the Line (Thea and her little brood) for the suggestion!

Enjoy!

I’ll put them in alphabetical order based on the name of the Twitter user who made the suggestion.

Way to fuel my nightmares, Chaz.

I have never seen a TLIID this good before. The Black Widow/Me-Mow and Jarvis/Peppermint Butler ones aren’t just extremely well drawn, they’re also great representations of their respective characters. They reflect a pretty solid understanding of the source material.

That last one with Cap and Simon/The Ice King, too. Man, just so great.

Fantastic work people, but seriously, No one suggested Marcie??? C’mon.. MARCELINE!!!!

HA! Hawk-girl’s ass is on FIRE!

I’m going to bring back the good old “I don’t watch this show, so I don’t get the references”, but follow it up with a “This really makes me want to watch the show to get the references.” Especially Rachel’s, Xum’s and Axel’s.

Great job everyone!

You can really tell the ones who know the source material vs those who simply “art”.

Most of these are pretty awesome. I don’t like this show nearly as much as I used to, but I’m totally for these mashups.

Great work as always; but, I have absolutely no context for this one. Haven’t seen a single episode of Adventure Time. If the illustrations here are anything to judge by, maybe I should check it out. Looks like it could be fun.

I will have nightmares now of Peppermint Butler stealing my face

Tobin for the win. Hands down.

Captain Marvel looks strangely like Spider-Man. Has Carol Danvers changed her costume yet again?

Lot’s of great stuff this week!

Some favourites:
Chaz on Peppermint Butler is disturbing in a way I didn’t expect… and wonderful.
Derek Langille’s Forest Wizard Vs. Doctor Strange has a beautiful Mike Mignola quality to it (and a surprisingly svelt looking Forest Wizard).
Rachel Ordway’s take on Ice King is pretty great (particularly Simon)
My second favourite is Marco D’Alfonso’s Jake. Wonderful in its simplicity.
By my favourite is Xum’s gorgeous looking Black Widow Vs. Me-Mow. Just excellent.

I wish the internet was popular back when cartoons like Cow & Chicken, or Dexter’s laboratory were popular. Then they would have been parodied as well. Still, AT reminds me of these good cartoons.

None of Jake replacing Mr Fantastic? Missed opportunity says I.

Jake/Thor? Would have been more aptly named Beta Ray Jake, imo :>

Awesome week, based on one of my favorite shows, though I do have to echo Bob F.’s confusion at the lack of Marceline, the Vampire Queen.

Hehe, these made me smile.
