The Great Comic Book Cover Homage Streak: Week 86

It occurs to me that it seems like many comic book covers are homages. Which is fine with me. I have no problem with it. It just made me think, though, how long could I go before I hit a week where NO new comic book was released that had a cover that was an homage to something? Let’s find out! Here is an archive of all the cover homages featured in the streak so far!

This week, we’ll go with Alex Ross’ cover for The Shadow #25, which is homaging Alex Raymond’s Flash Gordon…oh, wait, I meant it is homaging Bob Kane’s cover for Detective Comics #27

Eighty-six weeks down! Will we make it to week eighty-seven?

How do you even know it’s an homage? (jk)

Yeah, I’m not seeing it. The gun is being held at a slightly different angle, and that guy being carried isn’t even dropping his hat. Any perceived resemblance is pure coincidence or projection. Or maybe an agenda. In conclusion, Brian is basically HYDRA.

So, Kane’s is a “swipe” while Ross’s is an “homage.”

Hmm.

Ross isn’t presenting it as his original composition.

Yeah, there’s really no comparison. (This time I’m not being sarcastic. Enjoy it while you can.)

I just can’t believe we’re at week 86.

Y’know, thinking about it, considering that the Amazing Fantasy 15 is somewhat similar, is that cover an homage to Detective 27? I know there is a lot different, but there are similarities as well. I’ll have to look at the 2 side by side sometime (take them out of the ol’ vault, right?).

Travis, you consistently have the best and least mean spirited jokes on this site. Thank you.

Glad to see this one chosen. A further link considering that Detective 27 was based on The Shadow novel “Partners in Peril”.

Aw shucks, thanks, Mark.

Although I now feel the need to make an obscene and vulgar reference to your parentage ;)

And I do need to take them out of the vault. With my vast financial holdings, this is a hobby for me, y’hear, a hobby!

(Kudos for those of you who recognize my Dictators ref there.)
