Thoughts on Charlie Cox Being Cast as Daredevil

So it is now official, Charlie Cox has been cast as Matt Murdock in the upcoming Daredevil TV series on Netflix. I think that this is awesome news, as I really enjoyed Cox’s performance on Boardwalk Empire and he definitely seemed like the type of guy who could handle his own show and he’s still unknown enough that you don’t have that weird thing where an actor is too famous to separate them from their previous roles.

Good job, Marvel Studios (or whoever is doing the hiring on these things. Disney? )!

FOX would have just cast Affleck again.

Definitely a great actor, but not sure I see it myself…

Matt Murdock doesn’t see it himself, either.

Ba-dump-bum!

Wrong – just completely wrong for the role.

I don’t watch Boardwalk Empire, but I loved Cox in the movie Stardust, so I’m excited.
Now where’s my Asian Iron Fist?

I’ve only seen him in Stardust and he is more of a Peter Parker than Matt Murdoch but apparently he was great on Boardwalk Empire, so hoping for the best.

He’s definitely not a Peter Parker in Boardwalk! :)

He better get the hair dye ready.

After his performance on Hannibal, I’d love to see Michael Pitt as Bullseye, too.

I really need to watch seasons two and three of Boardwalk Empire! and Stardust but from what I’ve read online, Boardwalk Empire is closer to what he will probably be required to do than Stardust. Or, at least, places him in a real city as oppose to a fantasy one.

Yes, Boardwalk Empire is really the more important of his two most famous credits, both because it is the more recent performance (and thus likely more enlightening) and the tone of its subject matter is certainly closer to that of Daredevil.

I’m not sure he’s got a long enough list of credits to feel one way or another about him. He seems a little young and baby faced, but if there’s one thing Marvel has done really, really well, it’s casting. So they’ve got my benefit of the doubt.

He has a good look for it. It would be plausible that he was the son of an Irish Catholic boxer.
